എല്ലാ പ്രായത്തിലുമുള്ള ആളുകളുടെ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ, മുൻഗണനകൾ, വെല്ലുവിളികൾ എന്നിവ കണക്കിലെടുക്കുന്ന ഒരു സമീപനം രൂപകല്പ്പന അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ആശയത്തെയാണ് വയോജന സൗഹൃദം എന്ന് പറയുന്നത്. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പ്രായമേറിയവരിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രായമാകുംതോറും വ്യക്തികളുടെ ക്ഷേമത്തെയും ജീവിതനിലവാരത്തെയും പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുന്ന പരിസ്ഥിതീകൾ, നയങ്ങൾ, സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഒരു വയോജന സൗഹൃദ സമീപനം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കുന്നത്.
