Project Vidya 2025 update:
These are the vibrant children who are pursuing their formal school education against all the odds in a crime affected area.( sharing few pictures because of the privacy and security.)The education expenses of these children are supported by the generosity of Mr. Satish Menon . A big wholeheartedly gratitude towards you!
Why is it a big deal for the children in conflict areas to pursue formal school education?
Here are the following reasons:
- 1. *Reduces Crime Rates*: Studies have shown that a one-year increase in average education attainment can lead to a 3% decrease in national crime rates. Education helps individuals develop skills, making them less vulnerable to exploitation and criminal activities.
- 2. *Develops Life Skills*: Schools teach essential life skills, such as conflict resolution, personal safety, and healthy decision-making, which help individuals navigate challenging situations.
- 3. *Provides Support System*: Schools offer a support system, including teachers, peers, and counselors, which can help individuals cope with trauma and stress.
- 4. *Fosters Community Engagement*: Schools can facilitate community involvement, promoting social cohesion and collective efforts to address crime.
- 5. *Breaks Cycles of Violence*: Education can help break cycles of violence and crime by providing alternatives and promoting positive role models.
- 6. *Empowers Individuals*: Education empowers individuals, especially marginalized groups, to make informed choices and assert their rights.
- 7. *Long-term Impact*: Formal education can have a lasting, positive impact on individuals, families, and communities, contributing to sustainable development and peace.
Overall, formal school education plays a vital role in preventing crime and promoting community safety.
So what have we achieved so far by working in that area since 2015?
Some of the previous children( now adults), have completed their graduations and become an earning member of the family, taking care of their parents in a dignified way. They are the first ones to be graduates and 12th board exam pass outs. They are inspiring the other children from their locality to not to fall into the 'easy-money crime routes'! We are strongly hoping that one day, no juveniles will be produced from the Kannaginagar area!
