The India International Down Syndrome Conference (IIDSC) is an annual flagship event organized by the Down Syndrome Federation of India (DSFI). Its purpose is to bring together people with Down syndrome, their families, caregivers, medical and therapy professionals, educators, researchers, and advocates under one roof to:
Empower self-advocates: It provides a platform where individuals with Down syndrome share their aspirations, creative talents, and leadership—emphasizing that they are not limited by their condition
Share the latest scientific and therapeutic insights: Experts and doctors guide attendees on medical care—from genetics, cardiology, vision, endocrinology and speech therapy to mental health and nutrition
Offer practical workshops: These include speech therapy, special education techniques, storytelling, art therapy, theatre, and fitness, often led by specialists and creative professionals to equip families and self‑advocates with actionable tools
Foster emotional support & sibling inclusion: Sessions involve siblings sharing their experiences, strengthening family understanding and support networks
Celebrate through cultural and social events: Evenings feature performances, dramas, and festivals by self‑advocates, creating joyful, inclusive experiences
Recognize contributions: The DSFI Excellence Awards honor outstanding self‑advocates, contributors, and state or national efforts supporting the community
Advocate policy and inclusion: From its inception in 2017 to today, the conference promotes legal and social reforms for education, employment, insurance coverage, and overall societal inclusion of persons with Down syndrome
