Rotary Club of Alandur, in association with Chennai Metro Rail Limited, successfully organised an Awareness Programme for visually challenged and physically challenged individuals at Saidapet Metro Station.

The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about the various facilities, accessibility features, and support systems available for specially-abled passengers in Chennai Metro services.

A total of 11 visually challenged participants and 1 physically challenged participant took part in this initiative. They were guided on:
βœ… How to access metro facilities
βœ… How to seek assistance from metro staff
βœ… Safety and accessibility features available at stations and inside trains

The participants were also taken on a metro journey between Saidapet Metro Station and Guindy Metro Station to provide them with practical exposure and confidence in using metro services independently.

β˜•πŸͺ Chennai Metro Rail Limited graciously arranged refreshments, snacks, and coffee for the participants at Guindy Station.

🎫 As part of the initiative, our club distributed Metro Travel Cards worth β‚Ή200 each to all participants.

🍱 The programme concluded with a feedback session where participants shared their experiences and valuable suggestions. CMRL officials positively received the suggestions and assured that they would be considered for future improvements.

Our club also hosted a sumptuous lunch for all the participants.

We are happy to share that CMRL has agreed to continue this meaningful initiative every month and expand it across all metro stations.

Together, we move towards a more inclusive and accessible society. πŸ’™

Project SPARK – Igniting Study Skills for Underprivileged Students

Project SPARK is a unique educational initiative proposed by the Rotary Club of Alandur in collaboration with MAX Academy, designed to empower underprivileged students with scientific learning skills. Rooted in over 30 years of research and experience training more than 2 lakh students, teachers, and parents, the project addresses a critical gap: while students are told to study well, they are rarely taught how to study effectively. SPARK introduces techniques such as peak concentration, brain activation, speed reading and writing, memory methods, stress management, and handwriting improvement, ensuring that students gain practical tools to excel in academics and beyond.

The program includes structured training sessions, innovative learning materials, input sessions for teachers, and merit certification. A special focus is placed on handwriting through MAX Smart Writing workshops for classes 3–5, which enhance confidence, concentration, memory, and exam performance. Each student receives a year‑long practice book and specialized tools like groove pens and engraved boards. The impact is transformative: students learn to study effortlessly, score higher, build confidence, overcome distractions, and aspire to greater achievements.

The timeline spans three 2 months within the academic year, covering students from Class I to XII. Sponsors benefit from lasting visibility, strong social impact, and branding opportunities, as the project directly reduces school dropouts and uplifts communities. Culminating in an assessment to fine tune and motivate students, SPARK stands out as a sustainable, innovative, and socially responsible initiative that truly ignites the spark of learning in young minds. We look forward for like minded people to join RC Alandur in its mission to Uplift the Underprivileged.
