Rotary Club of Alandur, in association with Chennai Metro Rail Limited, successfully organised an Awareness Programme for visually challenged and physically challenged individuals at Saidapet Metro Station.
The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about the various facilities, accessibility features, and support systems available for specially-abled passengers in Chennai Metro services.
A total of 11 visually challenged participants and 1 physically challenged participant took part in this initiative. They were guided on:
β
How to access metro facilities
β
How to seek assistance from metro staff
β
Safety and accessibility features available at stations and inside trains
The participants were also taken on a metro journey between Saidapet Metro Station and Guindy Metro Station to provide them with practical exposure and confidence in using metro services independently.
βπͺ Chennai Metro Rail Limited graciously arranged refreshments, snacks, and coffee for the participants at Guindy Station.
π« As part of the initiative, our club distributed Metro Travel Cards worth βΉ200 each to all participants.
π± The programme concluded with a feedback session where participants shared their experiences and valuable suggestions. CMRL officials positively received the suggestions and assured that they would be considered for future improvements.
Our club also hosted a sumptuous lunch for all the participants.
We are happy to share that CMRL has agreed to continue this meaningful initiative every month and expand it across all metro stations.
Together, we move towards a more inclusive and accessible society. π
