TCS has announced layoff of 2% of its workforce ie around 12,000 employees.

This is clear cost cutting measure in order to maintain their profit margin affected due to sluggish economic conditions in its north america market, other geopolitical conditions that affect economy and adoption of AI etc.,

The Project Fluidity is initiated to throw away the mid and senior level employees out while hiring less experienced, low salaried employees to maintain profit margin.

TCS has to comply with labour laws of the country and as per law company has to get approval from the govt for the workforce reduction that it has intended. Otherwise it is illegal!

“As part of this journey, we will also be releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible. This will impact about 2 per cent of our global workforce, primarily in the middle and senior grades, over the course of the year. This transition is being planned with due care to ensure there is no impact on service delivery to our clients,” said the company.

In a separate development, the company has embarked on a journey named Project Fluidity, as part of which it is looking to put senior managers or consultants on the bench if their performance is deemed unsatisfactory by their superiors, people familiar with the matter told Business Standard. Most of the layoffs will happen at the mid- to senior-management level as TCS realigns its workforce pyramid to suit the needs of changing times.
