United Way of Chennai (UWC), a registered society under the Societies Registration Act of Tamil Nadu 1975, in Chennai. UWC is a secular, non-partisan, non-political, non-profit, non-government, organization dedicated to improving lives in Tamil Nadu by identifying and addressing the long term needs of communities by promoting and encouraging voluntary charitable service and volunteerism. We aim to help develop, support and strengthen community service projects and improve lives by acting as an intermediary between the corporate and the development sector, promoting corporate social responsibility and working as a catalyst to increase the flow of resources from all parts of society for community and social development projects.

Strengthening School Infrastructure for a Better Learning Environment 🏫

With funding support from Dover, United Way Chennai implemented the construction of a dining hall and toilet block at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Poonamallee, Thiruvallur District.

The initiative aims to strengthen essential school infrastructure by providing students with a dedicated space for dining and improved sanitation facilities. These facilities will contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable school environment, supporting students' health, well-being, and educational experience.

Through initiatives like these, Dover and United Way Chennai continue to contribute to creating better learning environments and supporting the well-being of students.

Under the CSR initiative of Thejo Engineering Limited, United Way Chennai implemented a Library Strengthening Project at Chennai Middle School, Nettukuppam, Chennai, with the aim of creating an engaging, welcoming, and child-friendly space for 196 studetnts.
The project included library-themed mural art and wall painting, wooden bookshelves, child-friendly tables and chairs, and 295 age-appropriate books. These enhancements have transformed the library into a vibrant learning space where students can explore new ideas and develop a love for reading.

With the support of one of our CSR partners, United Way Chennai has implemented a lake rejuvenation initiative in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, creating a safer and more accessible space for the community.

60 solar LED street lights
40 seating arrangements

Together, we’re creating spaces that promote health, well-being, community connection and coexistence with nature.

From Stitching Skills to Financial Confidence!

Learning to tailor is not just about creating clothes—it can be a pathway to building an independent livelihood. As part of the tailoring training programme, women participants also took part in a Financial Literacy Session designed to help them better manage and grow their earnings.

The session covered practical aspects such as saving, budgeting, managing income and expenses, responsible borrowing, and planning for the future.

By combining skill development with financial awareness, we are helping women take informed financial decisions and build stronger, more sustainable livelihoods.

Skills create opportunities. Financial knowledge helps turn those opportunities into lasting change.

Learning, Playing & Growing Together!
Ford Motor Company employees came together for a volunteering activity at a Government School, engaging with students through fun and meaningful activities.
With 30 employee volunteers, the session focused on creating awareness among students about personal hygiene and healthy habits through an interactive Snake and Ladder game.
By turning learning into play, the volunteers helped students understand important hygiene practices in a simple, engaging, and memorable way.
