Why Segregate Waste at Source?

Every day, as we travel through our cities, we see mixed waste dumped into municipal bins or discarded in open spaces. This is exactly what municipalities receive every day.

What happens next? The waste is transported to landfills, or in some cases, burned.

At the same time, governments are investing heavily in waste-to-energy plants, compressed biogas facilities, composting units, and other waste processing technologies. These are important investments—but they can succeed only when the waste reaching them is properly segregated.

When wet, dry, sanitary, and hazardous wastes are mixed together, the waste becomes contaminated. Even the best technologies cannot deliver their full potential with poor-quality inputs.

The problem is often not the technology. The problem is the mixed waste we generate.

The solution begins with Waste Segregation at Source.
