A Splash of Colour, A World of Imagination

This picture captures a joyful moment with the students of Shalom Educational Center in Khopoli, Maharashtra.

On October 1, 2026, Subi Vidya Foundation (SVF) distributed colour crayons to these differently abled children, inviting them to draw whatever their imagination inspired them to create.

The little gift brought enormous smiles and excitement. The children were thrilled to receive the crayons and eagerly got ready to put their colourful imagination on paper.

For SVF, it was a simple gesture with a meaningful message: every child has a world of creativity within—and sometimes, all they need is a little encouragement to let it shine.

All this made possible by the selfless work of our representative Abhijit Hungund. SVF is grateful to him.

Old Clothes Collection Drive in Mumbai

October 3, 2026: The Subi Vidya Foundation (SVF) received an overwhelming response to its Old Clothes Collection and Recycling Drive in Mumbai on October 3, with residents of a housing society in Goregaon donating old clothes in large numbers.

Partnering with the Bombay Recycling Concern (BRC), the SVF collection resulted in a substantial volume of clothes, demonstrating the willingness of communities to participate in simple, practical actions for a more sustainable future.

The initiative is based on a simple idea: clothes that are no longer needed need not become waste. They can be reused, repurposed or responsibly recycled, thereby reducing textile waste and conserving valuable resources.

SVF gratefully acknowledges and thanks our dedicated volunteer, Sharon Fernandes, whose initiative, commitment and tireless efforts made this successful Mumbai collection drive possible. Her enthusiasm and determination have shown how one committed volunteer can inspire an entire community to take action for sustainability.

SVF invites media organisations, corporates, resident welfare associations, educational institutions and community groups to partner with the Foundation in organising similar collection and recycling drives.

One household at a time. One community at a time. Together, we can keep usable clothes out of landfills and turn waste into a resource.

A flyer that ‘flew’ across the globe!

A sustainability initiative launched by Subi Vidya Foundation (SVF) travelled far beyond its intended audience.

The SVF flyer for an old-clothes collection drive was seen by family friend Sudha Wuppalapati in Chicago. She, in turn, shared it with her mother in Mumbai.

Her mother had a few good sarees she was no longer using. She called the number on the flyer, and the collection team came to her home and picked them up promptly. The flyer really flew and stirred an action.

From Temple Flowers to a Cash Opportunity

A dream I have had for many years is finally becoming a reality.

For years, I wondered why the beautiful flowers and garlands offered in our temples should end up on streets and in garbage dumps.

Today, there is a better way.

Temple floral waste can be collected and transformed into useful, saleable products such as incense cones and agarbattis.

Sensing this opportunity, Subi Vidya Foundation (SVF) has taken the first step. We have worked with a temple in Chennai to arrange for a local contractor to collect its discarded floral waste.

This is just the beginning. More temples are likely to join the initiative, including an Ayyappa temple in Mumbai.

What was once considered waste can become a resource, a source of livelihood, and an opportunity to keep our temples and cities cleaner.

For me, this is more than waste management. It is a small but meaningful step towards a circular economy inspired by our ancient tradition of respecting nature.
