The Founding Day of the Harijan Sevak Sangh was commemorated at Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya, T. Nagar, Chennai, with reverence and reflection. 🌿✨

Students learned about the historic moment when Mahatma Gandhi, after his fast at Yerwada Jail in 1932, founded the Harijan Sevak Sangh and personally wrote its constitution. Ms. Usha Krishnamoorthy beautifully explained how Harijan means “children of God” and Sevak means “service,” reflecting the Sangh’s mission of uplifting the downtrodden.

The role of Thakkar Bapa as the first secretary was remembered with deep respect, while Mr. G. Panchamoorthy, ATO, highlighted the need to live by Gandhian principles of equality and compassion. The occasion was marked by the lighting of a ceremonial lamp, reaffirming the commitment to Gandhiji’s vision of service and harmony. 🙏

A meaningful day For Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya Samithi as we honoured Prof. Dr. Sankar Kumar Sanyal, All India President of Harijan Sevak Sangh, on his 77th birthday and celebrated his continued commitment to Gandhian principles.

Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya commemorated Temple Entry Day on July 8 with a powerful reenactment at its campus temple.

Inspired by Sri Vaidyanatha Iyer’s courageous act in 1939, this symbolic event reminded trainees of the struggles faced by marginalized communities and the fight against caste-based discrimination.

With the temple door initially locked, the reenactment powerfully portrayed the exclusion once faced by many. Mr. Muthukumar, embodying Vaidyanatha Iyer, opened the door and led everyone inside — a moving moment that echoed the historic breaking of social barriers.

The program emphasized that while laws may have changed, discrimination still persists in subtle ways, and true change can only come from transforming hearts and minds.

💡 Let us continue to open doors — to temples, to opportunities, and to a more inclusive society.
