World Charity Day | Teacher’s Day

Charity is not just about giving — it’s about creating opportunities and opening doors to brighter futures for a less privileged person.

At our Technology Aided Learning Labs (Project TALL), we witness this transformation every day. Arun, a Class 7 student, had never touched a computer before. With the patient guidance of his Facilitator, he now solves Math problems on screen with confidence and even supports his classmates. Small steps like these shape big futures.

On this Teacher’s Day, we salute our TALL facilitators for their dedication and the Principals of Government schools whose encouragement make these programs possible.

On this World Charity Day, we also celebrate our Donors, Volunteers and partners who turn compassion into action.

You are not just “Giving”, you are creating an opportunity for someone to reach for a better life.

🤝 Together, we are:
· Rebuilding schools
· Bringing digital learning to rural classrooms
· Creating safe spaces for children to dream, to reach for the stars.

🌟 Educate to Empower – The TALL Project 🌟 An Initiative of Bhoomika Trust

For most children in rural Tamil Nadu, a Computer is something they’ve only seen from afar—never touched, never used.

When Bhoomika Trust set up Technology Aided Learning Labs (TALL) in Government schools, the change was magical. Children logged in for the very first time with their own IDs, solving Math problems on a screen instead of using a blackboard. Teachers told us: students who once struggled were suddenly curious, confident, and eager to learn.

💻 Since 2022, we’ve set up 11 TALL Labs, reaching over 3,000 students. The results are clear—confidence grows, Math becomes less scary, and the digital gap begins to close.

Now, many more children are still waiting for their first click. ✨
And we need your help to reach them.

Do share this message with your groups—every contribution helps equip a school with computers, digital tools, and trained facilitators.

Together, let’s give rural children the chance to learn, explore, and dream bigger.

Celebrating Our Changemakers on International Youth Day.

At Bhoomika Trust, we have seen something powerful happen again and again!

Young people have stepped forward, not just to dream of a better world, but to roll up their sleeves and help build it.Over the years, many of our most impactful moments have been shaped by youth volunteers.

They came in droves to volunteer when Chennai was devastated in December 2015 with streets flowing like rivers post unprecedented rains. They made up the majority of over 10000 volunteers who supported Bhoomika, clocking over 1 lakh man hours.

They put up their hands every time we had to pack relief materials that went as far as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Bihar, Kerala post disasters.

They skillfully manned our COVID Migrant workers database, sorting, tracing, connecting with every migrant worker and guiding them to trains that took them back home.

They worked with us conducting online classes for students in remote areas.

These young changemakers bring more than energy. They bring fresh ideas, creativity, and a kind of hope that is contagious. They remind us that giving is not always about money, it can be about the hours you spend listening, the effort you put into organising, or the skills you share to make someone else’s path a little easier.

Today, on International Youth Day, we want to say thank you. Thank you to every young person who has walked into a Bhoomika project and left their mark not just on the work we do, but in the hearts of the people we serve.
If you’ve ever thought, I want to make a difference, this is your moment. Volunteer with us and be part of the change.

“Earlier, computers were something we watched. Now, they’re something we use, and they’re helping us understand.”
– Jega, Class 7, Panchayat Union Middle School, Periyar Nagar,Tiruttani Tiruvallur District, Tamilnadu.

A small school in Periyar Nagar took a big step forward last week. Bhoomika Trust, inaugurated a new Technology Aided Learning Lab (TALL) at Panchayat Union Middle School, near Tiruttani.

This is Bhoomika's 11th TALL project. This project incorporates a digital, self-paced math learning program in partnership with Altius Foundation. The lab includes 21 computers, individual student logins, and math lessons aligned with the Tamil Nadu Samacheer Kalvi syllabus with both Tamil and English options. A trained facilitator guides sessions alongside the school’s Math teacher.

For many students, this is the first hands on exposure to a computer. The initial response is heartwarming. Teachers have already shared that students seem a lot more curious and willing to engage, especially those who previously struggled in class. In a recent assesment done by us, in one of our TALL projects school, the qualitative findings in respect of attendance, motivation and confidence in using digital aids were very encouraging. The academic gains were very significant with average scores rising dramatically.

With 11 LAB projects making self learning of Maths through their engagement in Bhoomika's TALL possible, this has opened up opportunity for over 2500 students in Government middle schools.

We are truly excited to see how this learning space evolves in the weeks ahead.

How can you help?

Malliga, contributes to the household income by running a small tiffin shop. The income she brings in is critical and supplements her husband's income as a driver, to support their family. The water rose up high enough to destroy her livelihood in the recent rains. To buy all the critical materials needed to restart her tiffin shop is a huge challenge for her.

The sad reality post a disaster is that the world moves on after the initial flurry of response. But for many who were severly affected with damaged homes and livelihood it looks very bleak. It is this phase that we need to also recognise and help the affected build back their lives.

Bhoomika supported Malliga and several other roadside eateries to restart their small business, for several roadside vendors selling pottery, pooja material. A few women dependent on their tailoring skills were supported with new machines to restart. Bhoomika's team had earlier met them when they were all sitting forlorn in the middle of the debris left by the rain, today with this small gesture you can see them smile.

They speak out to say " Bhoomika, we do not know you, but thank you for coming here to help us".

Bhoomika is still on the job validating requests.

We have reached about 20 families so far. There are many more Malligas, Vasukis, Radhas out there. Do donate to help us support them

12th December 2024

Bhoomika's team reached another set of villages-Vadavambalam,Arangandanallur, Kanaikuppam, Melpathi, Alanguppam. In the last 3 days they have reached 2000 families to give away ration kits.

The tearful gratitude of the recepients are all due to our donors.

The stories of lost livelihoods of idli sellers, flower and coconut seller on the road, small traders losing everything in the shop as they rushed away in the middle of night with water gushing in, are heart rending to hear. Our team has meticulously collected details, promising to come back with support. We estimate amounts ranging between Rs.5000 to Rs 20000 per family to re establish their trade. We want to support atleast 100 families.

So, friends, we do need your support to get them back on their feet.
