Samudhaaya Foundation - Regd.

Samudhaaya Foundation - Regd. Padmabhushan awardee Sudha Ragunathan’s Samudhaaya Foundation was launched in 1999, an outcome of her compassion to reach out to society beyond her music.

From 1999, the Foundation has contributed to the Kargil Defence Personnel Relief Fund, the Cyclone Relief Fund for the affected in Orissa, the Earthquake Relief Fund for the affected in Gujarat and The Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, for pediatric cancer. Children and their welfare is a cause close to Sudha’s heart and one of Samudhaaya Foundation’s key focuses is towards this band of citizens – th

e tender young souls who have a life time ahead but lack support to take their vision forward because of health and monetary reasons. Thus was conceived the project 'HAVE A HEART FOR LITTLE HEARTS' in 2008. Samudhaaya Foundation, in the presence of Shri S.M. Krishna, Minister for External Affairs, disbursed Rs. 25 lakhs to Sri Ramachandra Hospital to enable heart surgeries for 100 underprivileged children. Samudhaaya Foundation has assisted Sri Arunodayam, a home for the mentally challenged and destitute children who are terminally ill by funding Rs. 5 lakhs for a special lounge in their new building. Samudhaaya is funding Rs. 17 lakhs to The Clarke School for the Deaf for renovation of the existing premises, to ensure a safer and healthier environment. Samudhaaya has enabled Dean Foundation (acronym - ‘To Dignify and Empower the Ailing and the Needy’) to set up a specialized care centre for terminally ill children with a funding of Rs. 5 lakhs. Samudhaaya has assisted Tulir - Centre for the Prevention & Healing of Child Sexual Abuse with a funding of Rs. 5 lakhs to support child survivors of sexual abuse through psycho-social and legal services. The Chief Guest for the function on 25 March, 2010 where the donations were handed over to the three institutions mentioned above was Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi (Former Governor of West Bengal). The Guest of Honor was Padma Vibhushan Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, who was also be given the Saadhana Award for Excellence in recognition of his outstanding work in the areas of agricultural science and research. In December 2011 Samudhaaya Foundation, in the presence of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam recognized Prema Vaasam, a home for the mentally challenged destitute children and under privileged children and allocated funds of Rs. 20 lakhs. The Paediatric Cancer Wing at Sri Ramachandra Hospital, headed by Dr. Julius Scott was also allocated Rs. 20 lakhs for treating underprivileged children ailing from cancer.

Samudhaya Foundation is 25 yrs now….it just seems as if it was yesterday that it was launched.

What began as a small effort to contribute to society through my music, seeking support from large hearted generous souls - rasikas, well-wishers, friends, members from the fraternity, business entities…. has made us come this far.

It was the Kargil war and the incomparable loss of families that propelled me to work towards launching Samudhaaya Foundation. Since then, I have realized, in fulfilment, the opportunities that my music provides in touching souls and enhancing support to the needy. The Foundation has supported causes primarily for children and underprivileged women, relating to medicare, infrastructure and education.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, we had the honour of Smt. Mallika Srinvasan, Chairman & MD, TAFE gracing the occasion and giving away the donor cheques to Akshaya Trust, Viswajayam Foundation and Annai Ullam. The Saadhana Award for Excellence was conferred upon Padma Shri awardee K*m A. Kanyakumari and Deepa Muthaiya, Chairman, Dean Foundation.

The official function was followed by a thematic dance presentation 'Kallazhagar'. It was a beautiful evening of compassion with sterling workers doing yeoman jobs and achievers who have touched society through their music and kind hearts.

Words cannot anymore express the grief or the magnitude of sufferings of the families impacted by the cyclone Michaung. We only need to convey our support by actions and deeds.

The Narikuravar Education and Welfare Society has been working tirelessly since 1990 to improve the education and socio economic conditions of this community. NEWS takes emergency response seriously and is dedicated to identifying vulnerable areas of the community to provide support. The Narikuravar
tribals in Tamil Nadu have been severely affected by the cyclone, lost their livelihood and require immediate assistance in the form of food and sanitary kits. Our support can make a significant difference in helping these individuals recover from this disaster.

About 900 families across areas of Kotturpuram, Thirumullaivoyal
Pooncheri, Mahabalipuram, Avadi, Thiruvallur, Koththimangalam, Thirukazhukundram, Perunagar, Uthiramerur, Ponneri, Thiruvallur
