With a passion to better the world by being the change that one wishes to see, we are creating a sustainable and environmental change at every step we take. A Non-Governmental Organization is aimed at aiding society and healing it's vices and upholding it's virtues. Conceived with the intention of giving back, the group has humble beginnings, fueled by the passion for change. With all the headlines in the news showing a degradation of the values of our community, it is our decisions that will shape the future, from what it is to what it will be. Rather than waiting for the promised better days, we the youth have decided to Begin ourselves, a "Thuvakkam" for the betterment of society. Our name, "Thuvakkam" which has roots from Tamil, precisely in English translates to 'A Beginning'. And as for our watchword "Exceeding limits" we stoutly proclaim that we are primed for exceeding the hindrance that we face in this contemporary globe for the betterment of our society. We believe that this initiative inculcates an attitude of selflessness among individuals which prompts them in creating a Future that every individual dreams of. .

Thuvakkam's next successful batch for the Fundamentals of Project Design. With an intention to provide this pathbreaking capacity-building course for rural students, Thuvakkam partnered with KANINI & the Youth Club of Madras School of Social Work in organizing the course.

We had selected 28 students from across different districts in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu- where the students were provided accommodation and a 4-day residential program on Thuvakkam Module.

We also had the Valedictory ceremony where guests from Kanini and Thuvakkam represented and presented the students with their certificates.

This Residential program empowers students to bridge the concepts of the academics with connecting with the real-time experiences in the field.

Thanking Kanini & MSSW Chennai for the impactful collaboration.

Clean Coast! Safe Sea!

We joined hands with the Department of Marine and Coastal Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, and 300+ students and volunteers at Pudumadam Beach, Ramanathapuram, for International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 on September 19.

Together, we conducted a beach cleanup, awareness session, waste segregation drive, and pledge-taking activity, collecting and sorting 317.29 kg of marine debris, including single-use plastics, glass bottles, ghost nets, paper, rubber, textiles, and clothing.

The initiative brought together colleges, coastal security police, SHGs, sanitation workers, and local fishing communities to promote responsible waste management, reduce plastic pollution, and protect marine ecosystems.

We conducted a Tree Care Maintenance activity at Thazhambur, Chennai, in collaboration with Ford.

With the active participation of 25 Ford volunteers, the activity focused on keeping the plantation area clean and well-maintained. Volunteers came together to remove unwanted vegetation, clear pathways, and apply mulch around the plants to support healthy growth and retain soil moisture. Beyond the work itself, the activity was about coming together, taking responsibility, and giving the green spaces around us the care they deserve. Through continued efforts like these, we strive to nurture greener spaces and create a healthier environment for the communities we serve.

GIVING TUESDAY | EMPOWER THROUGH LIVELIHOODS

Every woman deserves the opportunity to build a dignified and sustainable livelihood.

Through Mission 80 – Livelihood80, Thuvakkam aims to empower economically vulnerable women by providing livelihood pushcarts that can enable dignified self-employment and create sustainable income opportunities for families.

MISSION 80 is a collective initiative to create lasting social impact across education and community development. Under Livelihood80, our focus is on providing 80 livelihood pushcarts to economically vulnerable women, creating opportunities for self-employment, financial independence, and stronger family livelihoods.

80 Women. 80 Pushcarts. Sustainable Livelihoods.

Your support can help a woman access an opportunity to earn, support her family, and move towards greater financial stability and independence.

We believe meaningful giving should create opportunities that can have a lasting impact. By supporting livelihood opportunities, contributions can help women build sustainable sources of income rather than relying only on short-term assistance.

Donate to Mission 80 – Livelihood 80 and become part of a woman’s journey towards a more secure and empowered future.

Empower with purpose | Support with confidence | Create a livelihood.
