Designing inclusive streets, parks, and bus shelters — one training at a time!
April's highlight for UDC has been conducting in-person training sessions for 250 engineers from all 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The focus? Embedding inclusive design principles into everyday infrastructure.
The sessions began with insights from the Gender and Policy Lab and GCC’s leadership, grounding the training in public perception and civic urgency. From universal design standards and tactical urbanism to real-time challenges and peer learning, it was a rich exchange of ideas and actionable strategies.
Grateful to the engineers who participated with such openness and intent — and to the Chief Engineer for closing the sessions with dialogue and encouragement. Here’s to building a Chennai that works for everyone.
