I, M Radhakrishnan, aged 59, Manager of Indian Bank, took voluntary retirement on 28-02-2001, due to sudden demise of beloved wife, to look after young daughter of10 years old and aged parents. She was a master in the New maths introduced by the Government at that time and used to teach students free, as only handful of new maths experts available at that time. She was Manager of Central Bank of I
ndia, and did a noble service of convincing people to donate eyes on death and made them to register for the same. This has impressed me to donate her both eyes even at the horrible time of her death and called the doctor ro remove her eyes within 5 minutes of her death on 5-11- 1998. She is still seeing me and the world through two persons who were benefited, one is still in Chennai and the other is a South African. THIS ONLY MADE ME TO ASSOCIATE WITH BLIND PEOPLE Initially, I assisted the visually challenged as a reader and scribe, for writing exams. This was arranged by Sai Samithi. Every year on 5th Nov., memory day of my wife, I used to feed as many people as possible, and on 5-11-2002, I met Mr Padmarj Jain, a born blind with qualification M.A., B.Ed., M.Phil., Phd., working as Professsor of English in Government Arts college, Nandanam, Chennai. He requested to assist him to start a home for blind girls, as he came up in life and got good employment inspite of his disability. He specifically mentioned as girls, that too girls of poor rural families, who are interested in studies and come up in life, because boys can stay even on the roadside in nights, but girls need protection and that too the visually challenged girls need more care. So, we have decided and started LOTUS BLIND ASHRAM (THAMARAI PARVAIATROR ILLAM - read this in Tamil), with the help of JAINS, (as our salary was very less at that time even at the time my retirement my gross salary was Rs13000 only) I assisted them in a small way, I was forced to take care of young dauther and old parents.
