The International Women’s Day celebration was held at Karunalaya on 12th March, with 130 women participating in the event. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” highlighted the importance of supporting women to build a more equal and inclusive society.
The celebration began with fun and engaging games arranged especially for the women.
While addressing the gathering, Mr. John Bosco, President of Karunalaya, spoke about the importance of women’s financial independence and self-confidence. Mr. Ravikumar David, Vice President, also shared his best wishes and encouraging words for the women.
Adding to the spirit of the celebration, Mrs. Padmavathi (Madha Koil Street) and Mrs. Gowri (MUC) recited beautiful poems celebrating the strength and resilience of women.
Mrs. Dhanalakshmi (Barracks Street), speaking on behalf of the Pavement Dwellers Rights Association, encouraged the women by sharing their collective journey of overcoming many challenges and successfully securing housing from the government.
Mrs. Kannagi (HLL Nagar) inspired the gathering by sharing her personal story—how, as a single woman, she bravely faced many difficulties, achieved independence, and started her own self-employment venture.
Mrs. Lakshmi (Madha Koil Street) shared how Karunalaya guided and supported her family during difficult times, helping her husband overcome alcoholism and enabling them to build a stable life together.
Mrs. Parameshwari (Barracks Street) also shared that through the training provided by Karunalaya, women have gained economic progress and developed the habit of saving, which has been a great encouragement for their future.
Prizes were awarded to the women who won the games, adding excitement to the celebration. To make the day even more special, a photo frame corner was arranged where the women happily took beautiful photographs together.
The event was hosted by Rajeshwari, Mrs. Buvaneshwari, Mrs. Jeni Pricilla, Ms. Joys and Mr. Bharanidharan coordinated the program smoothly under the guidance of Dr. N. Paul Sunder Singh, Secretary of Karunalaya.
