Photos from the Walkthrough of our Ambur House Religious Art Gallery on the 30th of May. Vignesh of Sangam Foundation took us through the different sections, covering ritual prayer items, the vahanas of different Hindu gods, the depiction of Jesus Christ bearing the cross, and the unique overlaps, such as Gajalakshmi, the goddess of the lamp featuring on the buddhist Stupa at Sanchi. We left with a mix of awe at the stories that have travelled far and wide, and the traditions that were passed down and transformed over time. Thank you all for joining!

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. As we witness the indiscriminate exploitation of nature, the relationship between humanity and ecology is increasingly fractured. Environment Action Month is an effort by DakshinaChitra and Aram Thinai to celebrate ecology and its socio-cultural interconnectedness through art, conversations and perspective sharing.

Join us for our inaugural session, as we launch the Localised Climate Resilience Exhibition – “Namma Chennnai: Reimagining our neighbourhoods” by the students of Sunnyside Learning School, “Local Ecologies and Local histories - Adambakkam”, art works by Aram Thinai and “Ecology and Communities” art works curated by Natarajan Gangadharan.

Join us for a walkthrough of ‘Other Worlds of Art’, and step into Liliam’s incredible world of stories, legends, and personal experiences that frame her rich knowledge of Cuban, Latin American, and African art.

Drawing from her interactions with artists and working with her mother and former curator of the Havana Biennale, Dr.Llilian Llanes – Liliam is a treasure trove of information around the political power of printmaking from the 80s onwards that the exhibition highlights.

Remember the times when as soon as the curd rice touched our plates, our eyes would automatically search for that one special jar of pickle kept in the corner of the kitchen?

Long before refrigerators became part of every home, our grandparents trusted the humble Bharani to preserve life’s everyday flavors. Curd, pickles, salt, tamarind, and of course the stories that stayed fresh for generations.

Some vessels are about more than food. Come find Bharanis at DakshinaChitra, where everyday objects tell the stories we hold closest.
