Eco-friendly Celebration

Arvind Foundation's celebration of Vinayaka chaturthi on 6th September at all their 6 centres was very special in many aspects.
The clay for the idol of Ganapati was prepared with the efforts of special children - a process involving a series of steps over a few days to make it pliant.
The idol was prepared by the staff while the students worked on the decoration part. Fresh peepal leaves stuck in Ganesha-like designs was done as a guided craft activity.
Yet another set of students sat with their teacher to prepare a decorative umbrella for the Lord.
One student collected arugampul (dhurva grass) and made a 'green garland' for the deity.
The parents also did their bit by making delicious modhakam, sundal and fruits for offering.
The students were in a festive mood in their traditional attire. The day was marked by singing bhajans, dancing for Ganapati songs and reciting shlokas making the celebrations complete.
This Pillaiyar will dissolve and become clay again - to take shape as another deity in Navratri golu again. It is only too apt to call a celebration eco-friendly and special too, when the hands of special children have worked with clay and leaves for a divine cause.

Teachers' day was celebrated on September 5th at Arvind Foundation as a day to express gratitude for all the services rendered by the teachers who are 'special educators' handling many challenges in their teaching profession.

The management greeted the teachers in the morning wishing each one of them a 'Happy teachers day' and giving a small gift as a token of appreciation. But the most heartwarming moments were the enthusiastic and cheerful greetings received from the special students. Some had even made greeting cards putting in extra effort and proudly gave them to their teachers. One of them brought simple bracelets and lovingly put them on the wrists of the teachers.

With many parents also wishing the teachers on this special day when they came to drop or pick up their children, the teachers' day was filled with strong expressions of 'Thanks' from all quarters.
