Don Bosco Youth Centre – Broadway (DBYC), serving 76 years for the deserving and underprivileged children and youth is situated in the heart of the Metropolitan City of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Baracca in 1949 to lead the army of young people. At present there are 450 members, who have renewed their DBYC-Broadway membership during the Covid -19 and most of them attend this Centre daily. The needy yout
h assemble at the Centre every day at 4.00 pm and leave the Centre by 9.00 pm. The following are the activities and programs at the youth centre: Football and Volleyball Tournaments, Medical Camps, Social Work Services, Table Tennis, Carroms, Chess, Gymnastics, Music, Counselling, Night School, Dramas and Skits, Quiz Competitions, Scouts and Guides, Clubs and house systems, Novenas, Pongal Celebrations, Children’s’ day Program, Animation and Awareness Programmes, Don Boscos’ Feast, Christmas Sharing, Cultural Competitions, Job Career Guidance, etc. And other events are organized for the children and youth that are less fortunate in life in the neighbourhood. Looking back to 75 years of its existence, we are proud to have 30 directors and trained more than 30 thousand marginalized young people and placed them into the society as Film Directors, Missionaries, Actors, Singers, Dancers, Managers, Athletes, Religious personnel, Counsellors, NGOs and Agency Leaders and so on in India as well as in the world in a special way in Tamil Nadu. DBYC – Broadway is focused on the holistic formation, development and well-being of the youth irrespective of caste, colour and creed, to be honest citizens and good Christians. The youth are empowered in all aspects such as: Physical, Psychological, Intellectual, social, cultural, spiritual, economic and educational. Presently this centre is geared by Rev. Johnson Bashyam, SDB as the Director and Rector. Directors Fr. Felix, SDB and Mr. Bosco. The youth centre is divided into various groups such as Sub-Juniors, Juniors, Inters, Seniors and Super Seniors. Each group is guided by Salesian fathers and brothers along with collaborators and advisers of the DBYC. With God’s grace and blessings looking forward to glorious 100 years of Don Bosco’s dream and mission being fulfilled in the soil of Broadway – Chennai, Tamil Nadu – India.
