About the film
Turtle Walker is a critically acclaimed documentary that
illuminates the extraordinary life of marine conservationist Satish Bhaskar, famously
known as India’s “Sea Turtle Man.” During the late 1970s,
Bhaskar set out to walk the entire coast of the country. For almost 2 decades he marooned himself on islands, covering 4000+ kilometres all alone on foot. His discovery and meticulous documentation of sea turtle nesting sites laid
the foundation for their protection across India.

Directed & produced by Taira Malaney, Executive Produced by James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) and co-produced by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby as well as Oscar nominated HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, Turtle Walker premiered at DOC NYC in 2024 and has screened at over 70 international film festivals, winning multiple awards.

We are now bringing this powerful film back home to Indian audiences through special community and educational screenings.

MNS is proud to announce that our Project to create a People's Biodiversity Register (PBR) for Sirudavoor Village has concluded. Our President, Mr Sudhakar and Secretary Mr Vijaykumar officially handed over the PBR to Ms. Mita Banerjee, IFS, PCCF and Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Board.

Our members collaborated with the members of the Sirudavoor community along with members of Palluyir Trust, to complete the data collection and documentation required for this project.

The PBR is a comprehensive and extensive, community-driven document and records local biological resources, including flora, fauna, microorganisms, and associated traditional knowledge. It has been mandated by the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. The PBR serves as a baseline database for conservation and sustainability of sensitive eco systems.

This year's Bird Race held special significance for us at MNS - as we paid tribute to a dear friend and well wisher via the Sunjoy Monga Memorial Chennai Bird Race, a heartfelt tribute to honor his enduring legacy in bird conservation.

Despite persistent rain and overcast skies, the teams' passion soared undimmed.

Our gratitude and thanks to everyone who joined hands to make this a resounding success!
