Aathirai Educational and Charitable Trust is a registered organisation, established in December 2009. Aathirai was wife of a merchant.

Our mission is to help people from downtrodden society and to facilitate under privileged children with better eduction and basic needs. Aathirai was named behalf of the epic character in Manimegalai during 3rd century of Tamil Cheran dynasty

————————— Here is the extract of story of her life —————————

One of the 5 greatest epics Manimegalai describes of a character Manimegalai, who on her second part of life meets with aaputhiran and gets amudhsurabhi(cornucopia bowl) a bowl from which food would never disappear. But for the first time someone very pure in character had to put rice into it. She hears of Aathirai (Aathirai’s story will follow below) from whom she gets the first rice and after which the amudasurabhi never was empty; she could serve all the poor. Her Story:

In ancient days South Indian merchants had learnt great technology of using boats and travelled to almost all parts of world to trade. Coins and pottery of Rome were found in Poombuhar, Musuri, Thondi (old ports or Tamilnadu) . She was born in good family and she was brought up to love everyone , to be kind and be truthful. She could not even think of any ill-things to anyone. Her husband travelled south east when his ship was caught in a Storm and crashed. Almost everyone on the boat died. He alone escaped clinging to a with a plank of wood and reached an island

Since the culture of the Tamzhians were far greater than most of the world, he thought language, religion way of life, agriculture and whatever possible to the people there. They were surprised and made him there king. During this time Aathirai was still waiting for her husband to come back. After a long time people in her city started believing that everyone died on the ship died in the calamity. Hearing this rumor, she decided that she had no more life to live and decided to fall into fire and kill herself (This was a practice on olden days when woman who lost their husbands – due to love of the husband killed themselves)

When she walked into fire, fire (considered as the purest of all by Dravidian's) could not bare her heat of purity and extinguished itself. The Angel of fire appeared before her and told her that her husband was still alive. It then reminded the husband of her sorrow. He then returned back with riches and they lived happily for a long time

Recently, we have paid the term 2 school fee for Atchaya D (Standard XI) and Sanjay D (Standard VII), studying at Sathya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Purasawalkam, Chennai - 600 007.

Details of the new fee request is given below:

We have received a new request from Mrs.Kamala from Chennai, her husband is an auto driver and she is suffering from asthma complaints so recently she stopped working as a daily wager.

She has got a total of 3 children. Eldest daughter is in her UG graduation, second daughter is in her 12th grade, and the youngest daughter is studying in 10th standard in Vatsalya Matriculation Hr.Sec School, Peravallur, Chennai.

They have been managing their family financial commitments so far with their earnings, but at present she has been diagnosed with an asthma complaint and so she stopped working based on doctor's advice as her health is deteriorating from the illness.

So, the parents have approached our trust for their 3rd daughter's payment due from the last year and for the current year. After visiting their home for a background check, we have considered this request to proceed and let continue with her education.
Though their family's financial situation is worse at present, still the child is showing up good in her academics. This led our trust to support her studies.

Recently we have received a request from Mrs.Jayapriya from Chennai, her husband has recently passed away from a sudden heart attack during Jan 2024. Though their family was suffering from distress, children showed up well in their annual exams.

Mrs. Jayapriya approached our trust for one full year of educational support for their 2 children, she requested for School fee, Books and Uniform expenses from our trust for this full academic year. She has become a fulltime tailor now to look after her financial commitments .

After conducting background verification, Aathirai trust has decided to support her children to pursue their education without any struggle.

Dear All,
Greetings from Aathirai Educational and Charitable Trust !
This is to inform you that we have received an invitation to our Trust from Ponneri Union Primary School, Ponneri South. They have personally invited our Managing Trustee to honor as a Guest to grace their anniversary event which is going to be held on 27th March 2025 at their school.
They also have requested some complimentary gifts and snacks to contribute to the students of class 1 to class 5 upto 150 children overall.
Also they have the following request to fulfil the needs for the school.
1. Lunch box
2. Snacks
3. Chair for teaching staff
4. Table for teachers & office administration
5. Vessels to store drinking water
As of now we are accepting the invitation and our Managing Trustee will be gracing his presence as a Guest and for now we will provide lunch boxes and snacks to the students of class 1 to 5. Later we will consider other requests after visiting the school during the annual day and commit further after a few more verifications in person.
We would like to raise funds of approximately Rs.9300/- for this event. Kindly do the needful..

This is to inform members of Aathirai family, that one of our beloved volunteers Mrs.Sowmiya has kindly paid the term fee for M.Lishika studying V standard at EL SHADDAI Nursery & Primary School. She is from an economically weak background, her father works as an Auto driver.

Our volunteer Mrs. Sowmiya wanted to sponsor a girl child for their studies, hence she has paid for her term fee for Lishika to pursue her dream through studies.

Food Donation :
Our volunteers have donated a day food cost to Child Home on behalf of their special occasions.
