@ OrphansFamily, we believe ‘Sense of Belongingness’ is the blessing the orphans seek for. To fill this void we build inter-generational social bonds – mother-daughter relationship – between orphan girls and destitute elderly widows in a five acre plus settlement that works under the principle of permaculture - produces own food and meets additional resource needs – in Chhattisgarh, India. It gene
rates additional revenue through eco-social tourism, health care clinic and as social permaculture learning center. By the end of eighth year the settlement would fund a similar project. Simultaneously, we demonstrate if small farmers of adjacent farms could organize themselves to a minimum of 5 acres or more and practice closed-loop agriculture system, under permaculture principles, they would be self-sufficient overtime. The habitat ensures food security, nearly guarantees energy security, and promotes green and sustainable living. Relishing the nature is not a given gift for orphans; they are mostly confined to physical structures or open pavements. Our facility provides space for orphans to live with nature: plants, animals, and landscapes. OrphansFamily is a project by MUYARCHI (from Tamil, meaning ‘Initiative’) a not-for-profit charitable society based in Chennai, India. The society initiated the social development programs during May, 2007. Later, on 16th June 2009, we obtained the certificate of registration of societies under Section 10 of the Tamil Nadu Societies Act, 1975. We have 80 G and 12 AA certification.
