TREE Foundation India TREE Foundation- Trust for Environment Education, Conservation and Community Development and Roots & Shoots India- A Dr. Jane Goodall Institute Program

TREE Foundation was founded in 2002 with the aim of protecting marine turtle population, understanding the interrelatedness between coastal communities and the marine resources upon which the former survive. To focus on initiatives that combine conserving species and habitat with empowering local people is the only solution-incorporating the human element from a variety of perspectives including:

education programs, capacity building, economic development /poverty alleviation, human and animal health programs and networking with various government departments/agencies. As part of TREE Foundation’s community based sea turtle conservation program jointly run with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department’s wildlife wing and the Department of Fisheries, the Kadal Aamai Paadukavalargal (KAP) members patrol the beaches from Periya Neelangarai to Marakanam. TREE Foundation has been able to extend and strengthen its community based sea turtle conservation program up to Villupuram 8 kms beyond Marakanam covering 35 fishing villages and 110 kms.

🐄 A Life Saved at the Right Time!

Vellaiamma, a cow from Kollumedu village, went into labor but faced a serious complication—her calf was positioned tail-first, making natural delivery impossible.
Recognizing the urgency, her owners reached out to the TREE Foundation and the Vedics Foundation 'Mobile Veterinary Service' (MVS) team. Responding swiftly, the MVS team arrived on-site and expertly handled the dystocia, ensuring a safe delivery.
We’re happy to share that both mother and calf are safe! A healthy female calf was delivered, and essential post-delivery care and medications were given to help Vellaiamma recover from the stress. ❤️
👏 A big salute to the dedicated veterinary team of the TREE Foundation and the Vedics Foundation 'Mobile Veterinary Service' for their timely intervention and compassionate care!

Our triumph over stopping the trawler is the celebration of our being able to have moments like this - a little hatchling setting out to sea, protected by our STPF members from the moment it was laid in a deep nest to this moment, when it is ready to seek out its own life at sea.

INCREDIBLE!

AFTER 24 YEARS, THIS HAS FINALLY COME TO PASS!

Joint patrolling has been started from Tirupati District and also from Krishnapatnam port. Here, you can see our members accompanying the authorities chasing the trawl boats with TN and Pondicherry registrations fishing close to shore violating AP MFRA. Thank you TN Forest , Fisheries and Marine Police Departments for making it possible through your actions in AP too.

We are SO THANKFUL to the government, the Forest and Fisheries Departments, to the District Forest Officer and District Collector of Nellore, who took strict action against this trawler upon receiving our complaint.

The Tamil Nadu government's strict enforcement against illegal Trawling to Protect the livelihood of artisanal fishermen and migrating and breeding sea turtles had been brought to the notice of the District Forest Officer And the District Collector of Nellore by Dr Supraja Dharini, TREE Foundation in all meetings.

Acting on these concerns, the District Collector and the DFO have implemented strict enforcement measures on trawlers violating the AP MFRA. It has been decided that any trawl boats found operating within 4-5 kms will be seized and details informed to Tamil Nadu.

Also the department has cancelled fuel subsidy and licence for the violating boats for a period of time, which could become permanent in case of further violations.

To strengthen enforcement, along the Nellore District coast a trawl boat has been leased and regular patrolling is being conducted by the Marine Police , Fisheries and TREE Foundations Sea Turtle Protection Force (STPF) members.

These measures are expected to significantly contribute to the livelihood of fishermen and in protecting sea turtles, which play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of marine ecosystems.
