Ghost nets can keep trapping marine life long after they are lost. But fishing communities are helping change that story.

Through awareness, practical training and ghost-net retrieval, TREE Foundation works alongside fishers to bring this invisible threat ashore.

🌊🐢 Safer seas begin with people who care.

On 15 October 2026, a community interaction programme at Colva, Goa, brought together 25 participants, including local fishers, Indian Coast Guard and Department of Fisheries officials.

TREE Foundation demonstrated safe turtle handling and release using a turtle model, discussed the harm caused by ghost nets, and explained retrieval incentives—helping communities turn concern into practical action.

Every net brought ashore can mean one less threat beneath the waves. 💙

The people who call the coast home are helping protect its future.

Fishers, fisherwomen and Sea Turtle Protection Force (STPF) members are at the heart of TREE Foundation’s work—from beach patrols and nest protection to village awareness, ghost-net retrieval and turtle rescue.

Through practical training and local leadership, knowledge becomes action, and conservation becomes a shared responsibility.

As we celebrate 24 years and enter our 25th year, we honour these guardians and thank the Forest Departments, teams and partners who stand beside them. 💚

A hatchling’s first crawl carries the care of an entire community.

On nesting beaches, aboard fishing boats and in coastal villages, TREE Foundation’s journey has always begun with people.
