In Chengalpattu district, there exists a hamlet the world forgot. Irular Kudiyuruppu, in Cheyyur. A place so quiet, so overlooked, that most people driving past would never know it exists. Thirty three families live here, each carrying a story heavier than the silence around them. Many of the women are widows. A few have been deserted, left to raise their children and hold their homes together alone.
No steady income to depend on.
No school within reach for the children.
For years, alcohol has quietly ruled these homes, taking away peace, safety, and the simple joy of an evening together as a family.
You wouldn’t believe such a place still exists, so close, yet so far from everything we consider basic.
Since 2022, we have been walking with them. Not with promises, but with presence. We came not to fix, but to stay. Not to speak for them, but to help them find their own voice again. Slowly, quietly, one visit and one conversation at a time.
For the women, we are building livelihood.
For the men, we are opening space for counseling, a path back to themselves and their families.
For the children, we are bringing education, so their future is not limited by the circumstances they were born into. And for every home, we dream of a life free from alcohol, where evenings are spent with children, not without them.
This is not charity.
This is companionship.
Thirty three families. One community. One shared belief, that every human being deserves a life of dignity.
Since 2022, this has been our journey with them. And it continues.
Irular Kudiyuruppu is no longer forgotten.
It is rising.
