Every morning as dawn breaks over Marina Beach, the shoreline comes alive with a mesmerizing ritual. Located right opposite the Vivekananda House, thousands of pigeons and local birds descend upon the sandy beach for their daily feeding. It is one of Chennai’s most peaceful and iconic early morning sights.

Dedicated volunteers and nature lovers gather here between 5:15 AM and 7:00 AM to scatter grains. Watching the massive flock of birds simultaneously take flight against the backdrop of crashing ocean waves and the rising golden sun is a breathtaking, therapeutic experience.

If you are looking to capture the true soulful rhythm of Chennai, an early morning visit to this coastal sanctuary is an absolute must.

Every project we do has a theme of its own. At Lady Wellington School, our theme was a tribute to musicians, celebrating artists who bring different musical instruments to life through a beautiful mural.

We initially thought of inviting a Parai artist from outside our social work circle. But someone from our team suggested, “When we already have an artist among us, why look outside?” Interestingly, she was already part of the same project, painting another section of the wall.

With just 24 hours to complete the entire mural, our team had a little surprise planned. After she left in the evening, the night shift team worked hard, completing nearly 40% of the mural before she returned the next morning.

The moment she walked in and saw what the team had accomplished, her reaction was priceless. The surprise, the happiness, and the smiles across the team made it a truly wholesome moment.

Sometimes, the most beautiful part of a project is not what we paint on the wall, but how we make someone feel valued.

The artist who painted the wall is Velmurugan_Selvaraj🖌️🎨, and the artist portrayed on the wall is Lara_arts.

One Instagram post, countless generous donors across Chennai, and a mission to make every donation count. At Care and Welfare, we collected clothes from people across the city, carefully segregated them, and filtered out anything that wasn’t in a neat, clean, and usable condition. We then took the initiative to the streets of Pulianthope, going door to door and inviting needy and deserving people to receive the clothes they genuinely needed. This approach worked wonderfully, helping us reach the right people instead of simply distributing clothes for the sake of it.

We firmly believe that people in need deserve dignity, not clothes that are unfit to wear. That’s why we distributed only wearable clothes and responsibly disposed of those that weren’t suitable for donation. A heartfelt thank you to every donor who responded to our Instagram appeal and trusted us to put your contributions to good use. Your generosity made this initiative possible, and we’re glad to have turned your donations into something meaningful. Because a successful donation drive isn’t measured by how many clothes we collect, but by how thoughtfully we deliver them. What do you think about this approach? Chennai, you have overwhelmed us with your response to our Cloth Collection Drive! The incredible number of clothes, the kindness, and the trust you have shown us have exceeded our expectations. Every donation carries a story of generosity, and every contribution brings us one step closer to making a difference.

We sincerely apologise to those whose clothes we couldn’t collect within the stipulated time. As our team works exclusively on weekends, the overwhelming response, distance, and packed schedules made it difficult to reach everyone. If you have filled out our collection form, please don’t worry — we will definitely collect your clothes!

You’ll never realise how privileged you are until you step out of your comfort zone and serve the needy. The things we consider ordinary, like having food on our plates, a roof over our heads, access to education, and people who care for us, are dreams that many struggle to achieve. Sometimes, all it takes is one visit, one conversation, or one moment with someone less fortunate to change the way we see our own lives.

Volunteering is not just about helping others; it is about discovering humanity, understanding struggles, and learning gratitude. When you step into someone else’s world, you begin to appreciate your own blessings differently. You realise that even the smallest act of kindness can create a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
