UNAVU - Food for all

UNAVU is a non-governmental organization that was started with a mission to satisfy one of the most basic needs for any living being - Food. The organization was named after the Tamil word "உணவு" which means "Food". Our work commenced on January 1st, 2020 in Chennai and holds a strong and sustained record since then. The organization is made up of a strong base of dedicated volunteers proficient in several fields in which the majority comprises of college students. Our motto is to provide for and satiate the hunger of every individual in need of food, but we particularly look to provide for the homeless and poverty-stricken section of the society. Our organization has a strong foothold in the city of Chennai, and we work in its outskirts too. We are extremely flexible in the collection of funds for carrying out our regular activities. To sustain our everyday food distribution, we either need Rs. 10 from each contributor every day, or Rs. 300/per month. We have also started a project "MILK" where we provide milk and biscuits to underprivileged and undernourished children. Underprivileged families also receive monthly groceries from us from time to time. But ever since COVID-19 has hit the streets of the city, and with a lot of demand for food along with the closure of restaurants during the strict lockdown days, the need to distribute more and more food has increased dramatically, which is why we started our project, "UNLOCK THE HUNGER". Starting with the provision of 300 food packets, we have been providing 1000 food packets now every Sunday for six weeks. An increase in food distribution equals an increase in the fund requirement - which is why we request every individual to contribute in any way possible. UNAVU has high hopes of establishing itself much beyond Chennai - a dream that has a long way to go but can become a reality when we join hands together.
