EKAM Foundation

EKAM Foundation Ekam Foundation is a not-for-profit NGO providing quality healthcare to underprivileged children and mothers in India.

Ekam’s objective is to contribute directly to a substantial reduction in infant, and maternal mortality rates. Ekam ‘s unique healthcare model focuses on neonates and infants to supplement the public health care system. We aim to step in before the situation turns critical – by supporting maternal health and welfare. Our work bridges the gaps within the RMNCH+A [reproductive, maternal, newborn chi

ld, and adolescent health] arena. Over the last twelve years, Ekam has supplemented care at primary health centers, district hospitals, and other tertiary care government hospitals. We regularly train nurses, maintain critical equipment, transport sick infants to nearest district hospitals, and provide lab test support, drugs, and medicines in public and private hospitals.

Empowering Anganwadi Teachers for a Healthier Future!

On 27th January 2025, a comprehensive training session was conducted at the Anganwadi Centre in Kariyapatti, Virudhunagar District, for 30 Anganwadi teachers. The program focused on enhancing their capacity to promote child health, nutrition, and development within their communities.

The session, led by trainers Mrs Saraswathy and Mr Palanikumar S, along with resource person Mrs Padmavathy (ICDS CDPO), covered crucial topics such as:

- The significance of the first 1000 days in a child’s life
- Importance of immunization and supplements
- Recognizing and addressing dangerous symptoms
- Maintaining personal hygiene
- Conducting self-analysis for improvement
- Understanding food and nutrition for young children
- Proper use of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) bags
- Engaging children through awareness games and physical exercises

As part of the initiative, 30 height and weight scale machines were donated to ICDS Centers across Kariyapatti Block, empowering Anganwadi teachers to monitor child growth more effectively.

This impactful session aimed to strengthen grassroots efforts in promoting child health and well-being, contributing to healthier and happier communities.

Inauguration of Garbha Vriksham, Birthing Room: A Sanctuary for Mothers and Newborns

We are delighted to announce the inauguration of "Garbha Vriksham" at Kadambathur Primary Health Centre (PHC), graced by the presence of Dr. T. Prabhushankar, IAS, District Collector of Tiruvallur.

Adding a heartfelt touch to the event, antenatal mothers from the community inaugurated this transformative space, symbolizing the nurturing essence of motherhood.

The District Collector also unveiled the Comprehensive Lactation Training Kit, specially curated to empower frontline healthcare workers and mothers with the right tools and techniques for effective lactation support. He appreciated the thoughtful design and its potential to create lasting impact on maternal and child health outcomes.

We were especially happy to launch this initiative on our Founder’s Day, making it a heartfelt tribute to our mission and the vision of our late founder DrSailakshmi Balijepally Sivaram.

As part of the Care4All Project, this initiative by EKAM Foundation and Cognizant Foundation India enhances maternal and neonatal healthcare infrastructure in Tiruvallur district.

About Garbha Vriksham:
"Garbha Vriksham," meaning "Tree of Life," reimagines childbirth as a positive, empowering milestone in a mother's journey. This thoughtfully designed birthing room provides a dignified, supportive, and comforting environment for mothers and families.

Scalable and replicable, Garbha Vriksham adheres to LaQshya guidelines, bridging gaps in maternal and neonatal care while ensuring access to quality healthcare in underserved regions.

Stay tuned for more updates on the progress and inspiring stories from this initiative. Together, we strive to make every birth a celebration of life.
