Two-Day Exposure Visit & Capacity Building Workshop - Day 1 ✨

Our Vazhai School Companions from 7 Govt Schools joined Agaram Foundation for an inspiring exposure visit in Coimbatore!

📍 Regional Science Centre - Explored 7000 years of textile science, Jacquard looms to binary computing, hands-on physics with magnets, pulleys, color-mixing, Pythagoras in motion & a glimpse of Venus through the telescope.

📍 Vellalore Butterfly Park - Learned about butterfly conservation, rainwater harvesting (66,983L/year!), and Noyyal river restoration with founder Mr. Manikandan.

This visit was more than a field trip - our companions learned how to turn everyday objects into low-cost science kits and bring curiosity-based learning back to our classrooms.

From textbook to tangible. From classroom to community. 🌱🔬

The face of VAZHAI is evolving, and we movedtowards a model of appointing School Companions to help bridge academic gaps for children in remote rural communities.

From mentoring camps to now placing full-time School Companions inside remote forest-area government schools in Krishnagiri - Vazhai is entering its next chapter.

🌱 Vazhai Begins Again — From Remote Hills to New Possibilities!

This Independence Day, we didn't just celebrate freedom. We started a new journey.

Our teams from Bangalore and Chennai travelled deep into the hills of Seethapuram and Bettamugilalam, in the Thally-Kelamangalam region of Krishnagiri district — villages surrounded by forests where even reaching school every day is a challenge for children and teachers alike.

Many schools here run with just 1-2 teachers. That's where Vazhai's School Companions come in.

We began with 7 schools, new School Companions, and a Field Coordinator with two simple goals:
📚 Improve learning abilities
🏫 Improve attendance and strengthen children's connection with school

Our first day itself was special — Independence Day celebrations with the children! Dances, speeches, games, conversations, small gifts and books. A powerful reminder that distance from a city never means lack of talent or potential.

From classrooms, we moved to Aiyur Forest Camp for the real work:
🤝 Listening to our School Companions — the people closest to the children
🛡️ Conducting a child-safety session for teachers on dignity, non-discrimination and listening
🗺️ Planning for the year ahead — training, learning support, and sustainability

We even went looking for elephants the next morning. The elephant had other plans. 😂 But we returned with clarity.

Because this isn't just about bringing another teacher into a school.
It's about making sure a child in a remote village gets the same opportunity to learn, explore, feel safe, and dream.

And now, the real work begins.
