Praya endeavors to promote conciliation between women and environment interdependence through education, awareness, self-development and gender equity for better management of natural resources. Praya has its origin in 2017 as a small trust to promote charitable activities for betterment of women, especially during their early career. Girls and women being the direct stakeholders, their knowledge
about environment and cultural interrelationships could lead to a better understanding of life, unfolding the natural self. This is the driver for the activities of PRAYA. Praya at present has two small assistance-ship program for young girls in rural areas of Tamil Nadu, India. Award for Secondary School Studies
Studies are important in the early development of rural girl students to compete and catch up with the new and developing digital world. Praya intend to institute an award for girl students studying in rural schools. The idea is to support bright hard working girl students of class X, XI and XII who are not economically privileged section of the society. A small out of pocket grant could empower them pursue their academic or other interests, reducing to a little extent, the burden on parents. Girls studying in Higher Secondary Girl’s schools located in villages and managed by the Education Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu, India or local bodies such as Panchayat Unions are acceptable for the award. Award for Sports and Games
Many of the games are part of social events, festivals and religious conventions in Tamil Nadu that provide a forum for the talented people to display and articulate before participants. As such, these games sustained themselves over decades and need to be supported to successfully transfer it to the next generation. Praya intends to spot, identify and encourage talent among rural girls playing and preserving the traditional local games. Children studying in rural schools and are juniors (less than 15 years of age) in age are eligible for the game award. Individual school students or those associated with any local trainer or training group or association are eligible. The assistance for the selected girls will be Rs 500/- per month for an academic year (June – March).
