A Periyar 148th Birthday Celebration was held at the IIHS Students’ Hostel in Bengaluru on 29.09.2026. Students from TamilNadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka participated in the Students’ Meet held that evening.

The discussion covered various aspects of Periyar’s life, ideology, and social reform work. Participants discussed his contributions to women’s rights, the abolition of caste, the Self-Respect Movement, opposition to caste-based surnames, and his role in protests against social inequalities. The discussion also included 69% reservation in Tamil Nadu and its importance in the struggle for social justice.

Comrade Rogan coordinated the discussion and delivered a speech on Periyar’s ideas and social reform work. Comrades Nikhil and Kesha also shared their views and personal experiences in understanding Periyar and his ideology.

Comrade Yazhini Karunthinai from SFD coordinated the overall event.

மனிதனை அடிமையாக்குவது குடும்பமும், இல்லறமுமே!

குடும்பம், இல்லறம் என்றாலே அது மனிதனை அடிமையாக்கி அவன் சுதந்திரத்தோடு வாழ முடியாதவனாக்கி விடுகிறது.

சோம்பேறி வேண்டுமானால் விட்டுவிட்டு ஓடி விடுகின்றான். ஆனால் குடும்பத்தில் உள்ளவன் அந்த நிலைக்கு வர முடிவதில்லை. தனது குழந்தை குட்டிக்காகத் தனது சுதந்திரத்தையும் மானத்தையும் இழக்கின்றான். பிறரிடம் போய்ப் பல்லைக் காட்டிக் கெஞ்சுகின்றான். சில சமயங்களில் ஒழுக்கக் கேடு, நாணயக் கேட்டிற்கும், ஆளாகின்றான்.

மனித வாய்வின் இலட்சியத்தைப் பற்றியோ, ஒழுக்கத்தைப் பற்றியோ கவலையில்லாதவன், இவ்லறமல்லது நல்லறமன்று என்று சொல்லிவிட்டுப் போய் விட்டான். இல்லறத்திற்கு என்ன அவசியம்? இல்லறத்தோடு இல்லாவிட்டால் என்ன கேடு வரும் என்று சொல்லவில்லை.

கலியாணம் கட்டிக் கொள்வது, பிள்ளைக் குட்டிகள் போடுவது - சோறு சமைப்பது அலங்கரிப்பது சிங்காரித்துக் கொள்வது இதுதானே இல்லறம்?

மனித ஜீவன் சுபாவத்திற்கு இது ஏற்றதாக இருக்க முடியுமா? மனிதனின் சுதந்திர உணர்வுக்கு, இது கேடானதல்லவா?

பகுத்தறிவுள்ள மனிதன் என்றால், அவன் சமுதாய உணர்வோடு உலக நோக்கோடு வாழவேண்டியவன் அல்லவா?

இந்த இல்லறம் என்பதுதானே அந்த அளவுக்கு அவனைச் செல்ல விடாமல் 'குடும்பம்' என்ற அறைக்குள் சுருங்கி விடுகிறது.

இரண்டு பேரும் சேர்ந்து குட்டி போடுவது அதற்குப் பின்னால் அந்தக் குட்டிகளைக் காப்பாற்றுவது இதுதானே இல்லறம்.

தோழர்களே! இந்த இல்லற வாழ்க்கை முறை என்பது மிகவும் பழைய பத்தாம் பசலி முறை! உலக வளர்ச்சிக்கேற்ப இதில் மாறுதல் தேவை.

தமிழ்வழிக் கல்வி:
மக்களை முட்டாள்களாக்கும் வழி!

"புதிய உலகில் வாழ்கின்ற, வாழ வேண்டிய மக்களுக்கு மொழிப் பைத்தியம் எதற்கு? அதுவும் ஜாதி போன்ற, மதம் போன்ற மொழிப்பைத்தியம், மொழி வெறி என்பது எதற்காக இருக்க வேண்டும்?

போதாக் குறைக்கு, "பெரியார் கல்லூரியில் படித்தவர்கள்” என்றும், நாங்கள் "பகுத்தறிவுவாதிகள்” என்றும் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும் இன்றைய மந்திரிகள், “தமிழுக்கு - தமிழ்மொழிக்குக் கேடு வந்தால் நாங்கள் பதவியை விட்டு வெளியேறி விடுவோம்” என்று சொல்லுகிறார்கள் என்றால், இதில் என்ன பகுத்தறிவு இருக்கிறது? என்ன "பெரியார் வாசனை” இருக்கிறது?

உயர்தரப் படிப்புகளை எல்லாம், கல்லூரியிலும் கூடத் தமிழிலேயே ஆக்குகிறோம் என்றால், மக்களை முட்டாள்களாக்குகிறோம் என்றுதானே பொருள்?

இப்படியான நிலை ஏற்பட்டால் இது முக்கொலை என்றுதானே ஆகும். தமிழ்மொழியும் கெட்டு, பாட விஷயமும் பொருளும் கெட்டு, ஆங்கிலமும் கெடும் படி ஆவதால், மூன்று கொலை செய்வதாகத்தானே முடியும்?”

குடும்பம் அல்ல; குட்டி போடும் பண்ணை!

இன்று கல்யாணம், விவாக முகூர்த்தம் என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு பெண்களை ஆண்களுக்கு அடிமையாக்கி, குடும்பம் என்ற பேரில் வெறும் குட்டிபோடும் பண்ணைகளாக, கோழிப் பண்ணை மாட்டுப் பண்ணை போல ஆக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கின்றனர்.

இந்த நிலையை மாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று யாரும் பாடுபடவே இல்லை. தோன்றியவர் எல்லாம் வள்ளுவன் முதற்கொண்டு பெண்கள் அடிமை யாகவே இருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற கருத்தினைக் கொண்டவனாகவே இருந்து இருக்கின்றனர்.

“Marriage Was Created Precisely to Perpetuate Caste!”

Generally, when we speak of marriage, its underlying idea is to choose a woman as a servant for a man, expecting her to remain his subordinate throughout her lifetime and serve him. It is essentially a system in which women are treated in the most degrading manner. Once a marriage takes place, it means that the woman becomes the man’s permanent slave. Emphasising and reinforcing this is what marriage is all about.

Secondly, marriage involves performing rituals that have no connection whatsoever with reason or practical life, under the names of shastra (scripture) and tradition, so that human beings remain foolish and devoid of rational thought.

The third objective is to perpetuate caste-based degradation. A person must not be allowed to move away from the humiliation imposed by their caste. The very purpose of these marriages was to preserve and perpetuate that caste-based inequality.
