Remembering Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – A Visionary Who Inspired Generations

The National Agro Foundation (NAF) honours the visionary leadership and enduring legacy of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India and the Chairman of the Governing Council of NAF, whose guidance continues to inspire our journey towards sustainable rural transformation.

Dr. Kalam, along with NAF’s Founder, envisioned an agricultural future built on the pillars of food safety, soil health management, scientific farming, and empowered farming communities. His belief in the power of knowledge, innovation, and technology continues to guide NAF’s efforts towards creating sustainable solutions for farmers and rural communities.

Carrying forward this vision, NAF continues to work towards improving soil health, promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices, strengthening farmer capacities, and advancing safe and nutritious food systems. Through science-based interventions, community participation, and innovative approaches, NAF remains committed to building a future where agriculture supports both people and the planet.

On this memorable day, NAF honours Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s inspiring legacy and reaffirms its commitment to transforming his vision into action — nurturing healthy soils, sustainable farms, and prosperous rural communities.

El Niño Preparedness Camp - Building Resilient Agri Supply Chains Held in Vijayawada

Key adaptive measures discussed included the urgent adoption of crop diversification, the cultivation of short-duration crop varieties to help crops escape peak dry periods, and the implementation of robust soil and water budgeting frameworks. Participants also explored climate-smart agronomic practices, efficient water-use strategies, and risk management approaches to enhance farm resilience under changing weather conditions.

By bridging the gap between scientific climate forecasting and grassroots farm operations, the camp enabled FPC farmers to better understand weather advisories, prepare effective contingency plans, and proactively mitigate the adverse impacts of climate variability.

Ultimately, this timely initiative reinforces NAF's commitment to building climate-resilient farming communities by equipping local agricultural stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to protect crop yields, optimize sowing windows, strengthen agri supply chains, and sustain rural livelihoods in the face of increasing climate uncertainty.
