Long-term housing demands of fisherfolk consistently ignored; TN government fences off potential site identified by the fishers themselves - massive attention-grabbing protest at Marina!

28.02.2025 (Friday), 10 a.m.
Srinisavapuram Beach
In view of population expansion and coastal disasters, long-term housing plans for fisherfolk are mandated under the CRZ Notification. For more than a decade, the government has been ignoring this request from fisherfolk. Currently, the fishers themselves have identified a potential site for their long-term housing needs and have made petitions regarding this, but the government has fenced off that location. Along with the Long Term Housing plans and two others key demands- Scrap suspension bridge across Adyar river & notify marina stretch (Nochikuppam to Srinivasapuram) as fishing livelihoods protection zone, fishing villages from Mullikkuppam, Srinivasapuram, to Nochikuppam are staging a massive attention-grabbing protest.

Organised by: Mullikkuppam, Srinivasapuram and Mullima Nagar fisher panchayat

Few metres down south of the estuary, volunteers collected about 250 kg of trash, including plastics, slippers, broken glass bottles, biomedical waste, etc., that washed ashore through the Adyar River. More trash towards the estuary remains uncleaned yet! Clean it or let us clean it up! Make way for turtles
