✨ Transgender Day Celebration at Tamilnadu Garima Greh Shelter Home ✨

We are delighted to share that our Garima Greh Shelter Home celebrated Transgender Day with great enthusiasm, pride, and a strong sense of community 🌈

The event commenced with a warm and inspiring welcome speech by our respected Project Director, who highlighted the importance of inclusion, dignity, and empowerment of the transgender community. The speech set a meaningful tone for the celebration and encouraged everyone to continue working towards equality and acceptance.

Following this, a joyful cake-cutting ceremony was held 🎂, symbolizing unity, love, and the spirit of togetherness among all the residents and staff members.

The celebration continued with a series of fun-filled games and activities that brought smiles, laughter, and active participation from everyone. The energy and excitement were truly heartwarming. Winners of the games were appreciated and awarded prizes 🎁, making the event even more engaging and memorable.

Participants also had the opportunity to interact, share their experiences, and strengthen their bonds, creating a supportive and positive environment for all.

The event concluded with a delicious and fulfilling lunch 🍽️, where everyone gathered to enjoy the meal together, further strengthening the feeling of family and belonging.

Greetings from Tamil Nadu Garima Greh!!!!

Ms. Nanditha Madam, Joint Director of Social Welfare Department (Tamilnadu),Ms. Muthuselvi Madam, South DSW; and Ms. Haritha Madam, DSW, paid a sudden visit to our shelter home. During the visit, they interacted in detail with all the inmates and staff members to understand their well-being, daily routine, and the services provided at the shelter.

The officials thoroughly verified all the registers and records maintained at the shelter home, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with the guidelines. They also interacted with our Founder and Managing Trustee, Ms. Jeeva, and held detailed discussions regarding the various activities being carried out for the welfare and rehabilitation of the inmates.

In addition, discussions were held regarding the grant details, utilization, and overall functioning of the shelter home. The visit concluded with a smooth and constructive discussion with all concerned, reflecting the officials’ satisfaction with the operations and services provided by the shelter home.

Greetings from Transgender Rights Association!!!!

Tamil Nadu Garima Greh Shelter Home celebrated Pongal with enthusiasm and cultural spirit along with staff members and inmates. The celebration highlighted the importance of togetherness, tradition, and gratitude. Three Kolam competitions were organized, where inmates creatively displayed traditional designs using vibrant colours, promoting cultural expression and participation. In addition, three traditional Pongal pots were prepared collectively by staff and inmates, symbolizing prosperity and unity. The joyous moments of “Pongalo Pongal” created a festive atmosphere across the shelter home. The event concluded with the distribution of Pongal to all, fostering harmony, joy, and a strong sense of belonging among the residents and staff.

Greetings from TRA–Garima Greh!!!!!!!!!

Today, we joyfully celebrated Christmas at our shelter home in collaboration with our local church members. The event was marked by warmth, unity, and festive spirit. All TRA staff, Garima Greh staff, and our inmates actively participated and thoroughly enjoyed the celebration.

The programme included beautiful Christmas songs sung by the church members, which created a joyful and peaceful atmosphere. A special prayer was offered for the well-being, safety, and prosperity of our shelter home and its residents.

As a heartfelt gesture of love and compassion, the church members also distributed dresses to our inmates, bringing happiness and smiles to everyone present. The celebration fostered a sense of togetherness, hope, and belonging among all participants.

Greetings from TRA-Garima Greh!!!!!

The Transgender Rights Association organized a World AIDS Day awareness programme in collaboration with Periyar Nagar Government Hospital. The event witnessed the active participation of the Project Director of TRA, the Hospital Dean, ICTC staff, the Chief Gynecologist, the Chief Pediatrician, TRA staff, Garima Greh staff, inmates of Garima Greh, and members of the general public. As part of the programme, Apollo Nursing College students performed a drama focusing on HIV awareness, highlighting modes of transmission, prevention, and the importance of reducing stigma. In addition, internship students from Loyola College, who are currently undergoing their internship at Garima Greh, presented an awareness song emphasizing HIV prevention and community responsibility. The programme concluded with all participants taking a pledge to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and to promote inclusive, stigma-free healthcare for all.

Today, we celebrated Karthigai Deepam in our shelter home along with our inmates and staff members.
Karthigai Deepam is an important Indian traditional festival that symbolizes light, positivity, and the victory of good over darkness.
As part of the celebration, we lit candles and diyas throughout the shelter home, creating a warm and beautiful atmosphere.
The entire space was filled with brightness, and it brought a sense of peace, unity, and joy among everyone.
Our residents actively participated in arranging the lamps, decorating the premises, and offering prayers.
This celebration helped everyone feel connected to culture and tradition, creating a homely feeling inside the shelter.
The evening was filled with smiles, togetherness, and festive spirit, making it a memorable occasion for all of us.
Overall, the celebration of Karthigai Deepam brought light, hope, and happiness into our shelter home.

We successfully conducted a comprehensive health camp at our shelter home for both the staff and the inmates. The primary objective of this camp was to ensure regular health monitoring and early detection of any medical concerns among the residents. All the inmates actively participated in the camp, making it a highly productive and meaningful initiative.

The health camp included the following essential screenings:

Blood Sugar Test – to identify early signs of diabetes or abnormal glucose levels.

Blood Pressure (BP) Check – to monitor hypertension or any fluctuations that may require medical attention.

Haemoglobin Test – to assess anaemia levels and overall blood health.

Overall, the camp helped us gain a better understanding of the health status of both staff and inmates. The results will assist in planning further medical follow-ups, nutrition support, and necessary interventions to promote a healthier living environment within the shelter home.

We were honoured to have Ms. Haritha, District Social Welfare Officer, visit our Garima Greh. She had a detailed discussion with our Project Director Ms. Jeeva, interacted warmly with all staff and residents, and appreciated the team’s dedicated efforts.

Ms. Haritha Mam, also visited the living areas of both Transmen and Transwomen, reviewed records, and shared valuable suggestions for further improvement. 💐

Her visit was truly encouraging and filled with appreciation and support for the continued growth of Garima Greh. 🌈✨

🌈 Third-Party Evaluation by NIRDPR 🌈

The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), under the Ministry of Rural Development, conducted a third-party evaluation of our Garima Greh project for FY 2023–24 & 2024–25.

The evaluation team — Ms. Sandhya Gopakumaran (Executive Director), Mr. L.A. Santhosh (Project Manager), and Ms. Aparna T.P. (Project Officer) — interacted with our Project Director Ms. Jeeva Rangaraj, staff, and beneficiaries to assess the project’s impact and progress.

A Focus Group Discussion and individual interviews were held with 25 beneficiaries (both online & offline), followed by a friendly lunch with old beneficiaries.

The session ended on a positive note, filled with appreciation, smiles, and shared experiences. 💖✨
