This Independence Day🇮🇳, while people waved flags and celebrated, we stood outside Vandalur Zoo in Chennai to remind everyone that independence means nothing if it excludes those who are enslaved behind bars.

Zoos are not conservation centres — they are prisons. Animals are stolen from their homes, or forcibly bred in captivity, caged, and displayed as commodities for human entertainment.

Children showed curiosity and empathy — but some parents dragged them away, hiding them from the truth. Others admitted they understood, yet still went inside, as if convenience is more important than freedom. And some even dismissed it as a “matter of opinion.” But freedom is not an opinion. Freedom is a right.

Thousands of people in buses, autos, and cars saw our protest. They saw our resistance. And they saw the truth.

Until every cage is empty, Independence is incomplete.
Until every chain is broken, Independence is hollow.

What is happening in India right now is unacceptable, irrational, and immoral— rounding up lakhs of streets dogs to confine them forever is beyond cruelty and stupidity. The entire nation is outraged by this judgement, and rightly so.

But we must take a moment to reflect on how our perspective towards others animals is. Are we truly different from the animal abusers who want to get rid of animals at all costs? We aren’t if we find it acceptable to use any animal products or services.

Boycott all animal products and services. Now!

As India 🇮🇳 celebrates its 79th Independence Day, let’s remember those for whom freedom is a myth.

Our fellow sentient beings remain enslaved, caged,
mutilated, r***d, murdered and used as objects to
be showcased for human entertainment.

ALN! is organising a peaceful gathering outside
Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, on 15th
August, 10AM-1PM.

We’ll have posters, banners, speakers, microphones,
and a cage demo to show the public what captivity
feels like and engage with them.

We have secured the Police permission as well.
📢Join us. Speak up for the largest and most
silenced group of victims. Let’s come together in
solidarity and strength.

Does one person, and their actions make a difference?? Would you stop contributing to oppression even if others do not?
Animals are the most oppressed group on the planet, enslaved and exploited in trillions every year for their flesh, their secretions, their labour, their skin etc. Would you choose to wear a blindfold and continue to participate in their oppression stating that the numbers of victims and oppressors are far too staggering for one person’s actions (your actions) to make a difference? Or, would you take the moral stance to stop seeing animals as commodities and BOYCOTT all animal products and services?
