👮🏽‍♀️ THIS TAMILNADU POLICE DAY, STEP UP FOR SAFETY.

What if women in every neighbourhood, college, workplace, online space and public space could become champions of safety and empowerment?💪🏽

We are building a community of Mahila Police Volunteers — women who are passionate about creating safer spaces and are ready to take action in their communities.

Through training and capacity-building, volunteers will become part of our Awareness Team, supporting the Singappen Police Squad to:

🔹 Spread awareness on women's safety, rights & gender equality
🔹 Engage with communities and young people
🔹 Support safety initiatives in colleges and workplaces
🔹 Promote online safety and reporting awareness
🔹 Become proactive bystanders and community leaders
🔹 Work alongside local stakeholders to strengthen safer communities

WHO CAN JOIN?

🎓 Students | Working Professionals | Homemakers | Women from any discipline
❤️ Passionate, committed and ready to make a difference

📸 The Picture Isn’t the Problem. The Consent Is.

On World Photography Day, let’s remember that every photograph represents a person, a moment, and a story—and behind every image is someone whose dignity, privacy and choice matter.

Taking a photograph may take only a second. But the decision to capture, use, publish, or share that image can have consequences far beyond that moment.

Consent means more than simply asking, “Can I take a picture?”
It means respecting a person’s choice about whether their image is captured, how it is used, where it is shared, and whether they are comfortable with it.

A few simple practices can make our photography more respectful:

📷 Ask before you click.
🤝 Respect a “No”.
🔎 Consider the context.
📱 Think before you share.
🛡️ Protect people's dignity and privacy.

Whether we are photographing children, communities, colleagues, volunteers or participants at an event, consent should never be an afterthought.

Because a good photograph doesn't just capture a beautiful moment.

It respects the person in the frame. 💜

This Independence Day, we're thinking about a different kind of freedom.

Not just the freedom we celebrate once a year — but the everyday freedom to feel safe. Safe at home. Safe in school. Safe at the workplace. Safe simply existing in a public space.

At AWARE India, that's the freedom we work toward, every single day.

We don't believe safety is built through one campaign or one conversation. It's built one training at a time, one classroom at a time, one workplace at a time — through honest conversations that are often uncomfortable, awareness that reaches people before harm does, and skills that turn bystanders into people who actually step in.

Across the year, we sit with students, educators, corporate teams, and communities — not to lecture, but to listen, to unlearn, and to build the muscle to recognize harm and respond to it with courage and care.

This Independence Day, like every year before it, we recommit to that work. Because real freedom was never just about the absence of chains — it's about the presence of safety, dignity, and voice, for everyone, everywhere.

And we can't do this alone.

🏅 Safeguarding Children in Sports: Beyond the Game

Every child deserves a sporting environment where they can train, compete, grow and dream—without fear of abuse, harassment or exploitation.

From coaching and selection trials to travel, residential academies, competitions and online interactions, children in sports can face unique safeguarding risks. Creating safer sporting spaces requires clear boundaries, safer recruitment, responsible coaching, appropriate supervision, reporting mechanisms and a child-centred response.

Join us for an important conversation on “Safeguarding Children in Sports”, exploring how coaches, sports academies, schools, parents, federations and support staff can collectively build a culture of safety and accountability.

⚖️ Understanding POCSO and child protection responsibilities
🏃 Identifying safeguarding risks in sports environments
👥 Safe coach–athlete boundaries and appropriate conduct
🏨 Safeguarding during travel, camps and residential programmes
📱 Digital safety and online interactions with young athletes
🚨 Responding to disclosures, concerns and suspected abuse
🛡️ Building child-safe policies and reporting systems

In India, child safeguarding in sports must be treated as an integral part of sporting excellence—not an optional add-on. Government sports institutions have also explicitly required child-abuse prevention measures and compliance with POCSO in sports settings.

Because winning medals should never come at the cost of a child's safety.
