Destroying 5,161 acres of wetlands to store 1.65 TMC of water? This isn’t planning—it’s planned ecocide.

Earlier this week, along with representatives from the Kovalam-Nemmeli fishing community, CCAG held a press conference at the Chennai Press Club to expose the fatal flaws in the proposed ₹342.60 crore Mamallan Reservoir project.

The Water Resources Department (WRD) and IIT Madras technical assessments rely on a dangerous assumption: treating the Bay of Bengal merely as a drainage outlet for western runoffs, while completely ignoring ocean dynamics and tidal behavior.

We demand an immediate scrap of the Mamallan Reservoir project and a shift toward genuine, ecologically sound water governance.

The term "El Niño" was coined by Peruvian fishermen in the 1600s. They noticed unusually warm ocean currents appearing along the coasts of Peru and Ecuador, which typically peaked around Christmas.

The point is until and unless climate change is not addressed along with the local community knowledge there will never be a true solution to the issue.

Kondal - Art and photo exhibition on fisherfolks lives and livelihood was an amazing experience, thank you Niranjana Bhagath Kala Palanikumar , we are so glad to be a part of Kondal❤.
