Empowering women, strengthening livelihoods 🌿✨

A team from Resham Sutra, Youvati’, along with the Programme Manager and Project Associate from BLCCT, visited Majkhowa Gaon in Dhakuakhana and Ghilamara, Mohbol on 15th June 2026 to meet and support women entrepreneurs working in the Eri and Muga sector.

Last month, Eri and Muga machine credit linkage was successfully completed in these areas. Inspired by the dedication and hard work of the women entrepreneurs, the Youvati’ team visited the field to provide additional support through returnable grants (0% interest loans) and credit linkage opportunities for 20 women entrepreneurs.

This initiative aims to help women become financially stronger and self-reliant. Eligible women entrepreneurs (18+), having a smartphone and a household income below ₹25,000 per month, can avail the support by downloading the Youvati app and filling out the application form.

The repayment process is made simple and flexible, allowing women to return the loan in small monthly amounts over 5–10 months, with no interest for the first two months.

Small support can create big change when women are empowered 💛

Learning through exposure, growing through collaboration 🌿

A meaningful exposure visit was organized at Shuagi CFC, where a group of rural artisans from Majkhuwa Block, Dhemaji District visited the facility to gain practical insights into improved silk production practices.

Facilitated by SeSTA (Seven Sisters Development Assistance), the visit created a valuable platform for cross-learning and knowledge exchange, showcasing Shuagi CFC as a strong model of regional excellence in community-led silk enterprise.

The exposure focused on two key areas of silk value addition: 🧵 Eri Spinning🪡 Muga Reeling

The visiting artisans engaged closely with the processes, observed quality-focused production techniques, and explored ways to strengthen efficiency, skill, and product quality in their own work.

The visit served as an enriching opportunity to learn, connect, and draw inspiration from a shared vision of sustainable livelihoods and stronger rural enterprises.

On March 30, 2026, a distinguished group of visitors comprising representatives from Resham Sutra Pvt. Ltd., Bethel Life Care Charitable Trust (BLCCT), a US-based research scholar, and a philanthropist from Scotland visited the Machkhowa block in Dhemaji district.
The visit began with field observations in Seujipathar and Jorkota Bengali villages, where the team closely examined traditional sericulture practices. The visitors observed indigenous methods of Muga and Eri silkworm rearing, including plantation techniques, thread spinning, and weaving processes. Through interactive discussions with local community members, they gained valuable insights into the complete sericulture value chain from silkworm rearing and yarn production to weaving and market linkage.
The delegation also reviewed earlier interventions carried out by SeSTA and Resham Sutra, including training programs and exposure visits that have significantly contributed to strengthening local sericulture activities. The visit was highly engaging, with the delegates expressing deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the community Baideos. The interaction concluded with the offering of traditional Assamese pitha and gamusa, followed by a vibrant Husori performance by the villagers.
Subsequently, the team visited the Digholi CFC in Dhakuakhana, Dhemaji district. During this visit, they interacted with the CFC members, inspected the facilities, and held discussions regarding the need for additional machinery and financial support to further strengthen the center’s operations.
The final visit was made to Mohbal CFC, where the guests were warmly received by the participants. The program commenced with a welcome address by the BLCCT team. The guests were felicitated with traditional Assamese gamusa, japi, and locally handcrafted wooden jewellery by the CFC members.
