INTERNATIONAL SIKH CONFEDERATION

The International Sikh Confederation(ISC) was launched at an International Sikh Convention held at Chandigarh on 13th Nov 2005. Eminent Scholars from all parts of India, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Europe attended and took active part in the deliberations. A unanimous Resolution was passed by the delegates attending the meeting, giving birth to our organization. Giving effect to the above resolution, the ISC was formally inaugurated on 11th Dec 05 by the Panj Piaras (Five Priests) of Chandigarh at Plot No. 1, Sector 28 – A, Chandigarh. HQ ISC became active the same day under the leadership of an Action Committee who nominated Lt. Gen. Kartar Singh Gill, PVSM (Retd.) as Chief Organizer (later designated as Secretary General) at this HQ. The ISC has a proper Constitution which has been published and distributed to members. ISC was duly registered as a Society under Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860) and amended by Punjab Amendment Act 1957 on 14th Dec 2005. It has an elite membership of 513 this day. One of the major objectives of the ISC is to lift Sikh Society to a very high level of education with special reference to rural areas, create avenues of decent employment in all spheres and reform social ethos as per our Guru’s teachings. This would directly help in eradicating social evils such as the drug and liquor menace, infant feticide and increasing crime. The ISC has kept a close eye on religious matters of importance and has always supported ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ and has not hesitated in taking a unified stand when laid down Sikh traditions have been violated or ignored by our clergy. We have joined the struggle to improve the functioning of the SGPC and improve the quality of our elected SGPC members. This will continue with ever increasing vigor in the future and build on our rich past experience during the last held elections to the SGPC. A major role of the ISC is to bring all right thinking Sikh organizations under one umbrella. With that in view it has held close consultation with up to fifty different organizations by holding seminars on various events and hot topics such as reforming SGPC elections, Independence of Akal Takht Sahib, Article 25, forming of Independent SGPC in Haryana etc. We have close relations with the global Sikh organization of USA.
