Before seeking votes in the Panjab University Campus Student Council Elections 2026, CYSS or ASAP must answer the students.

In July 2023, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced nearly ₹50 crore for new hostels at Panjab University. In March 2024, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced a ₹40 crore budget allocation. Yet, by January 2026, out of the ₹48.92 crore sanctioned, only around ₹5 crore (10%) had been released.

If the funds were sanctioned, why has Panjab University still not received the full amount?

The hostel projects were announced by the Chief Minister during his visit to Panjab University. When will those announcements finally become reality?

Since 2023, students have been told in every election that hostel funds are coming. How much longer are students expected to wait? When will these hostels actually be built?

Students deserve accountability, not repeated promises. CYSS or ASAP must answer.

Today, SOPU submitted a memorandum to the Controller of Examinations of Panjab University requesting postponement of examinations scheduled on 26 May 2026.

The request was made in view of the Municipal Corporation Elections across Punjab so that students can exercise their democratic right to vote without affecting their examinations.

Today, research scholars from different departments submitted a memorandum to the Dean Students’ Welfare at Panjab University, requesting an extension of the operating hours of the Scholars’ Room in A.C. Joshi Library.

The memorandum highlights the challenges caused by the current limited timings and urges the authorities to keep the room open until midnight, preferably 24 hours, to ensure a conducive environment for uninterrupted academic work.
