Sunday at the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26 was unforgettable.

Students competed in a chess championship designed specifically for visually impaired players. The boards were different, with black and white squares at slightly different heights so moves could be felt by touch. But what really stood out was the strategy.

Players like Sunny Kumar Chauhan, 16, shared how chess started as fun five years ago and now he competes at state and national levels. “When I have a piece in hand, my mind starts working,” he said. Manpreet Singh, 17, learned through social media and friends, and won three matches at this tournament. Both dream of a career in chess.

Huge respect to Social Substance, Art Therapy Committee, Panjab University, and Shatranjshala for organizing this. As Ashish Bansal from Social Substance said, the goal was to discover talent and prove that ability is never less than anyone else’s.

Where vision ends, strategy begins. Every mind can win.
