NavSankalp is a student run charitable organisation operational in Tri city (Chandigarh) which helps poor children below the age of 17 years admitted in various government run medical institutions in clearing their medical bills. “The purpose of life is not to be happy but to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it in us to make a difference that we have lived and lived well.”
The NavSankalp family comprises of students from various colleges of the city with a burning desire to do something good for the society, volunteering to raise funds and help by clearing the medical bills of children below 17 years of age admitted in various government run medical institutions of the city. The very idea of NavSankalp was propounded by Dr. Harpriya Kaur and it was her sheer love and dedication to the cause alongside the love and support of Prof. Ravinder Chaudhry which made this thought a reality.NavSankalp was founded on November 2, 2006 which is now celebrated as NavSankalp Day every year. NavSankalp makes judicious donations to the patients (below the age of 17) admitted in various government run medical institutions of the city i.e. PGIMER and GMSH-16 only after proper consultation with the doctors in these institutes. We also organise annual visits to Orphanage ‘Snehalya’ (Maloya), Old Age Home (Sector 15), Blind School (Sector 26), and Vatika school for dumb and deaf (Sector 19) to spread a few smiles and make memories which shall be cherished forever by each one of us. Our volunteers also make weekly visits to the pediatric department in PGIMER to witness the life of the patients which further strengthens our determination towards our cause. Till date, we have played our bit in saving a total of 149 lives by donating a sum of over 55 Lac rupees. The funds for the same are raised through various annual events like Market Collection, Flash mob and a Mega Charity event ‘Sparkles’ which graces this city every February. The organisation also hosts Dynamite ‘The road to Sparkles’ providing a platform to the young artists in various fields like dance, music , acting etc acing in which gives them the golden opportunity of rocking the stage on ‘Sparkles’.
‘Raktsanchar’ is a sister unit of the organisation that works to help the people in emergency need of blood or platelets with the help of its 24 hours operational helpline number; 8288855994 by arranging blood donors in case of emergency. A total of 333 donations have been made in this session. Today, NavSankalp is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and a family of over 350 Sankalpians. NavSankalp has excelled under the able guidance of Professors-in-charge – Dr. Ravinder Chaudhry , Dr. Ravinder Dogra , Dr. Sumita Bakshi, Prof Rosy Ahluwalia and Prof Baljit Tiwana.Every year recruitments are held in the month of July and August.
‘A way to will…to help the ill’ is the guiding motto of the blue brigade. The otherwise normal college students are brought together by this common belief and are thus termed as ‘Sankalpians’. NavSankalp family has an underlying philosophy- “Each for the other and all for the society.”
