Sahayta celebrated World Cancer Day on 4th February by organizing an event, wherein 25 needy cancer patients were provided financial help.

Each cancer patient was handed over Rs 10,000. The amount is given by donors once a year in memory of their loved ones. The dissemination of the much-needed aid was done under the supervision of Administrator of the society, Wg Cdr Ajay Tulli (Retd.) and President, Sahayta, Mrs. Renu Saigal, also a cancer survivor. Members of Sahayta and several cancer survivors were present at the occasion.

Mrs. Renu Saigal said “A total of Rs 2,50,000 in financial assistance was given. Cancer as a disease does shatter the patient both mentally and physically, plus there is a huge financial drain on the patient and on the family. Keeping this in mind, people from economically challenged sections of society were provided with the much-needed funds. “

Please book your tickets to this fantastic event and pass on the good word to your friends and family.

All proceeds from the show will support Sahayta’s activities which include, but are not limited to:

a) Payment of unaffordable cancer treatment for lesser-privileged adults and children at PGIMER and the Sector 32 government hospital.

b) Counseling parents and cancer-afflicted children to bear the difficult time and overcome the trauma. Sahayta volunteers follow an attendance roster every week to visit the hospitals for counseling sessions.

c) Drive to administer the HPV vaccine, against cervical cancer, to women in relevant age groups. The vaccine is preceded by an awareness session. Sahayta volunteers visit female-centric institutions along with doctors who administer the vaccines.

d) Screening session for 3 types of cancer (cervical, oral and breast) conducted in various organizations, and at the Sahayta center.

e) Hard work and constant counseling of cancer patients to change the stigma attached “I suffer from cancer “to “I am a cancer survivor”.

f) Support to cancer afflicted families through sponsoring education and well-being of their children.

Our small drop of compassion can form the sea of hope for those affected. Let’s do our bit today.
