Aida Nunes Fernandes
Born in the year 1939, in the village of Arossim, to late Professor Alcantra Wellington Nunes and late Professor Mary Nunes, Aida lived a simple life, teaching in the kindergarten school. She assisted her parents with tuitions in the Portuguese language, so as to lighten the family’s financial burdens. A dedicated teacher, a great lover of nature and a staunch devotee of Our
Lady of Perpetual Succor. She married late Mathias Fernandes from the Island of Divar (Goa), and was blessed with three children namely, Venita, Ceasar and Walter, all of whom are well settled in life. She was very sensitive to issues like neglect of Senior Citizens and inappropriate medicare facilities in her village. She believed that education is a way of life and that no child should remain un-educated and for this she fought tirelessly for the rights of children. She had a big heart and was a generous giver. She was a woman of great endurance and perseverance, with a very positive outlook towards life. Her quality of perseverance was reected through her persistent hard work in meeting her family goals regardless of the circumstances or scarce resources at her hand. She was standing tall and strong even in the most challenging times of her life and passed on same good values to her children. She had a vision, a dream to see her village prosper and have some essential amenities including old age protection and better healthcare for every family in village. gold-trophy
As a mother of three, she showered enormous love to her children and made emphasis on learning good values i.e. stay strong and positive, work hard and feel happy in doing little things for others. She struggled immensely in her life and even faced a lot of hardship in her end years due to health issues. At this point in time, she envisioned better healthcare and protection needed for senior citizens in her own village. Unfortunately on 3rd March, 2001 she passed away pre-maturely with some unaccomplished dreams in her heart. Her son Ceasar, who is the chairman of the Smt. Aida Nunes Fernandes Memorial Trust, Cansaulim has pledged to turn his mother’s dreams into reality, relating to the overall good of our people and society.
