Talk on Environment Protection & Rain Water Harvesting

In keeping with the Worldwide Environment Service Week, The Lions Club of Candolim, in collaboration with the Village Panchayat of Candolim organized an informative talk on Environment Protection and Rain Water Harvesting for around 300 students of St. Theresa’s High School, Candolim.

The session was conducted by esteemed guest speaker Mr. Sujeetkumar Dongre, Scientist ‘SE’ at the Centre for Environment Education. With his vast experience in environmental conservation, Mr. Dongre delivered an insightful presentation on the urgent need to protect our natural resources.

He stressed the importance of sustainable practices, especially _water conservation through rainwater harvesting_, and explained how small individual efforts can collectively create a big impact. The talk also raised awareness about environmental challenges and inspired students to adopt eco-friendly habits in daily life.

The students participated enthusiastically, making the session both engaging and impactful.

Fire Safety Week

The Lions Club of Candolim, in collaboration with the Village Panchayat of Candolim and the Fire Station, Porvorim and Pilerne, observed Fire Safety Week at St. Theresa’s High School, Candolim, with the aim of spreading awareness about fire prevention and safety among students.
As part of the programme, a mock fire drill was conducted for over 545 staff and students of the school. The activity was designed to equip students and staff with practical knowledge on how to respond effectively during fire emergencies.
Station Officer Shri Krishna Parrikar, Sub Station Officer Deepak Shetgaonkar, fire fighters, HM - Mr Nicholas Cardozo, staff and students were present.

Revival of Oyster Reef

In keeping with the "Worldwide Environment Week" the Lions Club of Candolim is proud to have assisted the Village Panchayat of Candolim in a Biodiversity project - *The revival of the local oyster reef on the Candolim river bed.* The oyster reef had been severely depleted due to excessive oyster harvesting. The reviving process has begun by adding rock pieces for a stretch of 500m which will help oysters to grow, and support future growth. This initiative reflects the commitment of the Lions Club of Candolim to environmental conservation and the protection of marine ecosystems for future generations.

Tree Plantation Drive🌴🌴🌴

In keeping with the "Worldwide Week of Environment" The Lions Club of Candolim along with the Leo Club of Candolim and Village Panchayat of Candolim successfully carried out a "Tree Plantation Drive along the bundh at the Candolim riverside, where 60 fruit-bearing plants were planted.
This initiative aims not only to enhance the green cover but also to create a natural habitat and nesting place for a variety of birds. The addition of fruit-bearing trees will attract different species of birds, insects, and small wildlife, thereby enriching and supporting the biodiversity of the area.
We look forward to seeing these trees grow and contribute to a healthier, more vibrant ecosystem.

E - Waste Collection Drive

As a part of "Worldwide Environment Week" the Lions Club of Candolim along with the Village Panchayat of Candolim and Karo Sambhav conducted an E - Waste Collection Drive from 12th April to the 18th April in the village of Candolim. Items such as LED TVs, washing machines, dryers, laptops, mobiles, chargers CPUs, cables, routers etc were collected from hotels, shops, offices and homes. Through this drive the Club intends to responsibly dispose off electronic waste as improper handling can release toxic components in the environment. This was the third E - Waste drive conducted during this Lionistic year.

*Past District Governors Felicitation*

The Lions Club of Candolim along with the Leo Club of Candolim honoured the Past District Governors of the Goa Region on 22nd February 2026.

We are truly humbled and grateful to Past Multiple Council Chairperson Lion Agnelo Alcasoas, PDG Lion Vasudev Walawalker, PDG Lion Erle Brito, PDG Lion Dominic Rodrigues, , PDG Lion Chanrakant Hiremath, PDG Lion Nitin Manganlal and PDG Lion Shrikant More for their presence.

All the Past District Governors were felicitated at the hands of the President of the Club Lion Jude Lopez.
