In Pinguli, that someone has been generations of Thakkar artists, who have kept finding new ears, new eyes and new hearts for these stories.

Because sometimes, keeping a tradition alive simply means passing it on.

Some spaces begin with a belief. For Faizal & Shabana Foundation, it began with the belief that every child deserves an environment where their potential is understood, not measured against someone else’s.

That belief found a home in Mahe, when the Foundation joined hands with the Dubai Mahe Muslim Welfare Association to bring the K E Safiya Autism Centre to life.

Today, the centre is a space where children can learn at their own pace, families can find support, and small steps can become meaningful milestones.

Sometimes, creating change starts with simply creating a space where it can happen.

Literacy begins with learning to read, write and understand. These skills are foundational to how a child thinks, communicates and makes sense of the world around them.

Yet for many children, it isn't guaranteed. It depends on whether a child has a place to read, someone to read with, and books within reach - and often, they might have none of them.

This International Literacy Day, we're looking at what it takes to close that gap, and revisiting work we've done towards it.

Through the Green Changemakers Fellowship 2026, 30 children in Vallikkunnu Panchayat, Malappuram, Kerala, are dreaming big for the environment and turning those dreams into little yet impactful actions. The programme gives students exposure to the environmental challenges around them, while hands-on activities and on-the-ground exploration encourage them to think, create and develop solutions of their own. More than a sustainability initiative, the fellowship is also about learning to listen, collaborate and work together towards a common goal.

At GFLPS Kadalundi, students doodled, collaborated and let their imaginations run wild with Tulåh volunteers.

Along the way, they learned to express, listen, share and connect.

What if maths could be learned beyond the pages of a textbook?

At GFLPS Kadalundi, students are discovering just that. With the guidance of volunteer teacher Ms. Meghna Limayee, hands-on learning is helping them build concentration,memory, mental calculation and problem-solving skills, one bead at a time.

And as their skills grow, so does their confidence to take on maths.
