What happens to a child’s future when opportunity disappears before it even begins?

Right now, 600 children at tiljala shed- many from waste picker families-are standing at a fragile turning point.

They carry dreams far bigger than their circumstances… but today, those dreams are at risk of fading away.

With funds running critically low, the very support systems that keep them learning, nourished, and hopeful are under threat.

This isn’t just a funding gap-it’s the difference between a child staying in school or slipping back into hardship.

From 17th to 20th March, during the GlobalGiving Little x Little Campaign, you have a powerful chance to act:

✨ Every donation up to $50 will be matched by 50%

✨ Your small contribution can create a doubled impact

But here’s the truth- not everyone may be able to donate, and that’s okay.

What you can do is just as powerful:

👉 Spread the word

👉 Help this reach someone who can give

Because sometimes, a single repost can bring the right person to change a child’s life.

👉 Donate here and double your impact:

Have you ever seen a child experience a bonfire for the first time?

100 children from waste picker families

living beside railway tracks and canals in Kolkata

spent a night at the Dumdum Scouts Camp with Bharat Scouts and Guides.

Adventure.

Teamwork.

Confidence.

You can help create many more firsts for these children.

What does a child feel the first time they leave home for an overnight camp?

For many of us, it may seem like a small experience.

But for children at Tiljala SHED, it can be a life-changing moment.

For the first time, Ayush and Koyel travelled away from home to attend a Scouts winter camp held on the outskirts of the city.

They spent their days playing games, exploring activities, and learning

teamwork, courage, and confidence.

For some of these children, it was also their first overnight stay away from home.

As the evening arrived, they gathered around a bonfire- sharing laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments.

Sometimes, opportunity begins with a simple experience.

And for these children, that opportunity opened a new window of confidence, independence, and joy.

If you believe every child deserves opportunities that build confidence and hope, you can support their journey here:

What does it mean to be born a girl?

For millions, it still means growing up with barriers - violence, early marriage, unsafe work, and dreams that are often taken away too soon.

And yet, women rise.

They hold families together, build communities, and fight every day for dignity and opportunity.

And let us remember:

women do not only deliver babies - they deliver strength, resilience, leadership, and the future of our world.

One of the most powerful forces changing this reality is education.

Quietly, steadily, education has become a revolution - giving girls the courage to dream, the power to choose, and the confidence to lead.

But millions of girls are still waiting for that chance.

This International Women’s Day, let’s remember:

without She, He cannot exist.

Let’s invest in girls. Let’s change futures.

What happens when a child grows up feeling invisible?

Some children enter classrooms where no one notices whether they are present… or absent.

No roll calls.

No expectations.

No one waiting for them.

Slowly, they begin to believe that their presence does not matter.

But everything changes when someone finally chooses to notice them.

When a child is given a seat, a name, and the expectation to show up, something powerful begins to happen.

Even an empty chair starts to carry meaning.

It quietly says, “You belong here.”

At tiljala shed in Kolkata, we witness this transformation every day.

Children who once felt invisible begin to gain confidence, rediscover their dignity, and start dreaming about a future they never thought possible.

And this is why the month of March is such an important time.

Many Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and grant calls begin opening during this period as organizations look for meaningful partnerships that create real impact.

Here is how you can help these children:

• Recommend tiljala shed to companies or CSR teams looking for credible grassroots partners.

• Connect us with philanthropists, foundations, or CSR leaders.

• Send me a DM if you come across funding opportunities, grant calls, or partnerships that could support vulnerable children.

Real change happens when people come together with a shared purpose.

Let’s ensure that no child feels invisible again.

What happens when professionals step into a small community science competition?

Two of junior school mates of Shafkat Alam visited tiljala shed for the first time during our Science Competition and were amazed by the confidence, curiosity, and creativity of children from underserved communities.

One was Uzma Firdaus and the other was Sarah Amin — both from the same alma mater of Shafkat Alam.

They saw young minds presenting ideas with enthusiasm and determination — a powerful reminder that talent exists everywhere, even where opportunities are limited.

As alumni of the same school, it was meaningful to see them come forward to support the work at Tiljala SHED.

Their presence not only encouraged the children but also strengthened the bridge between opportunity and potential.

Real change begins when we move from appreciation to participation — sometimes all it takes is simply showing up.

Can children from waste pickers’ communities become young scientists? 🔬

At Tiljala SHED, they just proved they can.

Our Junior Science Project Competition saw children as young as 6 years present creative, sustainable models across 6 themes — built with recycled materials and powered by pure curiosity.

The confidence.
The ideas.
The dreams.

Absolutely inspiring.

Support their journey. Encourage their curiosity. Be part of the change.

What becomes possible when belief meets opportunity?

At the Tiljala Shed Science Project Competition, educators, industry leaders, and partners witnessed young minds transforming real-life challenges into thoughtful, science-driven ideas.

The room was filled with curiosity, confidence, and the kind of energy that signals future changemakers in the making.

For some, it was a first visit. For others, a meaningful return.

For everyone, it was a reminder that when the right support system exists, potential has no limits.

What can young minds create when given access to opportunity and encouragement?

Big ideas took shape at the tiljala shed Annual Science Project Competition.

Curiosity led the way, learning happened by doing, and confidence grew with every project.

Each creation reflected the imagination, effort, and potential of these young innovators.

Initiatives like these reinforce an important belief:

science and technology should be accessible to all, not just the privileged.

Platforms that encourage hands-on learning play a vital role in shaping confident, curious learners.

Thank you Milton Industries, Inc. for standing with us always.

Let’s support and amplify initiatives that democratize education and innovation.

What happens when a Self Help Group is formed without the right systems in place?

Today, we are conducting a program on Self Help Group (SHG) Management, Record Keeping, and Future Planning—because many SHGs struggle not due to lack of effort, but due to lack of basic operational and financial knowledge.

30 women from Mir Meher Ali Lane and 3 newly formed groups from Topsia, including Samriddhi, Mitti, Roshni, and Jyoti, are participating in this session.

Through simple pen-and-paper training, we are hand-holding them on meeting records, passbooks, member selection, and essential banking practices.

We are also strengthening their understanding of savings, interest rates, and how to access low-interest bank loans for SHGs, so these groups can function independently and sustainably.
Capacity building at the right stage makes all the difference.
