Swayam Swayam is a feminist organisation committed to ending discrimination and violence against women (VAW).

We provide Direct Support Services to women facing violence and work to create an environment where VAW is unacceptable. Swayam envisions a non-discriminatory, violence-free and gender-equal society where all human beings enjoy equitable rights and opportunities irrespective of their s*x, gender, s*xual orientation, age, class, caste, ethnicity, religion, nationality, language, and mental/physical

abilities. Swayam works at both at the curative and the preventive levels. On the one hand we facilitate the empowerment of women survivors of violence and enable them to become self-confident, self-sufficient and self-reliant. On the other, we generate discussion, debate and action in society, to challenge and change societal norms and values that deem violence against women acceptable as well as break the silence that shrouds the violence. Swayam’s holistic approach includes comprehensive Direct Support Services for women facing violence including counselling, psychotherapy, police follow up, legal advice, legal aid, career counselling, vocational training, referrals for shelter and employment, a drop-in-centre, child support and numerous group activities to promote women’s creativity and positive mental health. Our Initiatives for Social Action and Change Programme includes public education and awareness building; producing creative resources; disseminating information and sharing expertise; networking with like-minded organisations/institutions for systemic change and intervening in rural and urban communities to build a violence-free and gender-just society.

A little pause before the team meeting.
A little colour, a little creativity and a lot of heart.
During our small art session, the Swayam team expressed what motivates them - through paintings, words, doodles, and thoughts that came straight from within.
Different minds, different expressions but one shared spirit of hope, purpose and growth.
Here’s a glimpse of many of the beautiful creatives our team brought to life. 🎨❤️

At Swayam, we believe that real change requires a holistic approach - one rooted in care, intention, and continuity. Over 2 days at The Frank Anthony Public School, we engaged with both faculty and students. Our sessions focused on *creating safe spaces* with teachers and on *wellbeing and everyday safety* with students. Because safe spaces are not built in isolation..they are nurtured, practiced and sustained together. Looking forward to more such conversations, reflection and systemic change! ❤️

Some legacies are not written in words alone..they live in colours, in voices, in the courage of becoming.
On her 80th birthday, we celebrate Kamla di; who taught us to see beauty in difference, to listen where the world is silent and to believe that every shade, every story, BELONGS.
At Swayam, her words are not just remembered! They are lived and carried forward in every step towards a more equal world.
Today, we honour not just a life but a sky she helped us imagine - vast, vibrant and unapologetically diverse!

As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, a Poetry Therapy Workshop was organised yesterday at Swayam from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM by the Indo British Scholars’ Association.
The session was conducted by transformational coach Beth Caldwell and saw the participation of around 30 individuals from diverse backgrounds, including college students, professors, lawyers, corporate professionals and doctors. The workshop created a lively and engaging space for meaningful conversations around feminism. Through poetry and shared reflections, participants connected deeply with the ideas of justice, voice and collective action.
