🏏 A Day of Cricket, Teamwork and Togetherness!

The young people of Aathgaon, Puintala Block, came together for a mixed-gender cricket match organised by YCDA under the Two Feet Ahead Together (TFAT) Project.

It was wonderful to see girls and boys sharing the field, playing as teammates, and enjoying the game together. Beyond cricket, the match gave them a chance to support each other, build confidence, and show that sports are for everyone.

Small steps like these help create a space where every young person feels encouraged to participate and follow their interests.

The CEO of Youth Council for Development Alternatives (YCDA) conducted an internal monitoring visit to YCDA’s STAR School Project, supported by HCL Foundation.

During the visit, he interacted with children and teachers, reviewed the progress of project interventions, and gathered stakeholder feedback to understand achievements, identify challenges, and explore areas for improvement.

At YCDA, we believe that empowering farmers is the key to building stronger and more resilient communities.

Through the APC Project in Loisingha Block, women farmers have received continuous support to improve agricultural practices, increase productivity, and strengthen their livelihoods. As a result, many women farmers are now experiencing significant growth in their crop production and are moving towards doubling their income.

The project has helped farmers adopt better farming techniques, access resources, and make informed decisions that have led to higher yields and improved earnings. Today, these women farmers are more confident, financially secure, and optimistic about the future.

Their success is a testament to the power of community-led development and the dedication of farmers who work tirelessly to improve their lives and support their families.

YCDA, in partnership with Linsi Foundation and Desai Foundation Trust, extended support to flood-affected communities in Jajpur district through the distribution of Education Kits, Nutrition Kits, and Menstrual Health Management (MHM) Kits.

The initiative aimed to ensure that children can continue their learning, families receive essential nutritional support, and adolescent girls and women have access to menstrual hygiene materials during this challenging time. The relief effort reflects our collective commitment to standing with vulnerable communities and supporting their recovery with dignity and care.

We sincerely thank Linsi Foundation and Desai Foundation Trust for their valuable partnership and support in reaching those most affected by the floods. Together, we continue to strengthen community resilience and bring hope to families in times of crisis.

Families First: Investing in Children, Strengthening Families, Building Resilient Communities

We are proud to share that Mr. Rajendra Meher, Steering Committee Member of IACN and Secretary-cum-CEO of YCDA, participated in the IACN National Conference on Family Strengthening and Family-Based Care held in New Delhi.

The conference brought together child protection professionals, government representatives, civil society organizations, foster families, caregivers, and individuals with lived experience from across India to strengthen family-based care and ensure that children grow up in safe, nurturing and supportive family environments.

A special highlight was the inspiring sharing by an IACN Model Foster Care Mother, who shared her lived experience of being part of YCDA’s Foster Care Model. She spoke about her journey as a foster caregiver, the challenges and learnings along the way, and how the support and guidance provided through YCDA’s foster care approach has helped create a safe, caring and nurturing family environment for a child.

Her sharing brought a powerful lived-experience perspective to the conference and highlighted how family-based care can positively influence a child’s sense of belonging, security and well-being.

The conference reinforced the importance of strengthening families, preventing unnecessary family separation, and promoting family-based care solutions as an alternative to institutional care.

🌾 Learning from the Field: Exposure Visit on Millet Cultivation 🌱

As part of the Refresher Training of Agriculture Extension Personnel (VAWs/AOs) under the State Plan Scheme, an exposure visit was organized to Khaprakhol Block to enhance practical understanding of millet cultivation and the Basic Package of Practices (PoP) in Millets.

Agriculture Extension Personnel from 8 different districts participated in the exposure visit and gained hands-on insights into:

🌱 Millet cultivation practices
🌾 Field management and improved production techniques
🌱 Seed selection and quality practices
🌾 Good millet farming activities and field-level practices

The exposure visit provided an opportunity for participants to connect classroom learning with practical field experiences, strengthening their knowledge and capacity to support farmers in promoting sustainable millet cultivation.

🌾 Strengthening Millet Cultivation Through Field-Based Learning! 🌾

A Millet Field Visit was conducted at Bharuamunda Village, Belpada Block, in the presence of CDAO, Balangir, ADO Patnagarh, BAO Belpada, and AAO Belpada.

The officials interacted with millet farmers, assessed field conditions, and provided valuable technical guidance to enhance crop productivity and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Discussions focused on:

✅ Improved agronomic practices for higher yields
✅ Disease prevention and management
✅ Effective w**d management techniques
✅ Proper crop care and field management

Such field visits serve as an important platform for knowledge exchange, enabling farmers to learn practical and scientific approaches to millet cultivation. 🌱 YCDA’s APC Project Loisingha, in collaboration with Syngenta Foundation and PRADAN, organized a Vermicompost Awareness and Bed Distribution Programme to promote organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices.

The programme enhanced farmers’ knowledge on vermicompost preparation, bed management, and the benefits of using organic manure for improving soil health and crop productivity.
