Elsa Primary School, Bodhgaya, India: Supporting Children from Families in Need After many requests from the local community, Kusala Projects opened Elsa Primary School in April 2010 in Bodhgaya. This small school caters for children who previously had no opportunity to receive an education. For the first five years, the school operated with two teachers and sixty students. Unfortunately, due to funding issues, the school was down sized to one teacher school with thirty students after March 2015. Currently, there are forty students and two teachers. In March, 2019 the school was relocated to larger premises in the village of Karmoni, 15 km from Bodhgaya. The students come from local families who are in various states of need. For example, in some families there may be a parent or sibling who is disabled. In another family with several children, one child may be the only family member to ever have attended school. Kusala Projects, which funds Elsa Primary School, is a secular non-profit body with all members offering their services on a voluntary basis. It is a registered charity in Queensland, Australia. The school operates entirely from donations from generous people in many countries.
