🚲👧📚 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 🎓

In Chatkari village, Bihar, education often competes with daily survival. Under the Community Empowerment Project–III (CEP–III), Chatkari was identified as an intervention village because of its high vulnerability and limited access to basic services. Its roughly 175 households depend mainly on mica picking, a labour-intensive and insecure livelihood with irregular income. The village is about 28 km from the block headquarters and 58 km from the district headquarters, which makes government services and institutional support hard to reach.

Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad (BJUP) began work here in January 2025, with support Responsible Mica Initiative - RMI and the European Union. The aim is holistic community development across education, livelihoods, health, child protection, and access to entitlements.

Shraswati, 14, is a Grade 8 student at UMS Chatkari, from a socio-economically vulnerable family. Her school is 2–3 km from home, and the daily journey on foot or by public transport left her exhausted, cost her time, and raised safety concerns. All of this put her regular attendance at risk.

Following the project team's regular follow-up and the Village Development Committee's recommendation, BJUP provided Shraswati with a bicycle and an education kit. She now reaches school on time and returns home safely, with more time and energy for her studies and school activities. Her confidence and motivation have grown.

Practical support like this can prevent dropout and protect a girl's right to education.

🌸👧 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀' 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺: 𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 ✨🏫

Every month, many girls in rural schools miss classes, hide their discomfort, or simply don't have the right information about their own bodies. At Higher Secondary School, Rupail Madhail, that's beginning to change.

This is the Girls' Common Room, set up under the SBI Gram Seva programme, in partnership with SBI Foundation and Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad (BJUP).

The girl's common room wall carries a simple chart with eight practical steps: change pads at least three times a day, clean with water (not soap), get correct information from ASHA workers or teachers, wash hands properly, eat iron-rich food, and see a doctor if something feels wrong. Straightforward advice, finally within reach.

A sanitary napkin vending machine on the wall means no girl has to skip school over this. A cycle-tracking calendar helps them stay prepared. And right there on the cot, three girls sit with their notebooks open, talking, studying, asking the questions they used to keep to themselves.

Menstruation shouldn't cost a girl her school days, her confidence, or her sense of normalcy. This room makes sure it doesn't have to.

Empowering the next generation of changemakers 🌱 🧒

We recently concluded a two-day workshop on the Development of Child and PRI Ambassadors, bringing together young voices and community leaders to strengthen the foundations of child rights, leadership, and local governance.

Day 1 focused on the Ambassador concept, child rights and responsibilities, life skills, and child protection .

Day 2 built on this with the role of PRI Ambassadors, coordination between Child and PRI Ambassadors, child-friendly governance, and hands-on village/school action planning, culminating in participant presentations and evaluation.

The goal: equip young Ambassadors and PRI representatives with the knowledge and confidence to work together for safer, more responsive, and more inclusive local governance.

Proud to see rural youth stepping up as leaders in their communities. 💪

🌟🚌 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝗮𝗷𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗶 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗮: 𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆! 🏙️📚✨👧👦

They stepped into a planetarium and looked up at a sky full of stars they'd never seen this close. They walked through galleries that held centuries of Bihar's history. They watched science come alive in front of their eyes not from a textbook, but through their own hands and questions.

For most of them, this was their first trip to Patna. Their first time inside a museum. Their first "what's that?" followed by a real answer.

This exposure visit didn't happen by chance it happened because the children asked for it. Under the Children Wallet Project, they told us what mattered to them, and we listened. That's the whole idea: children aren't just participants, they're decision-makers in their own growth story.

What we saw on 6th September wasn't just a school trip. It was confidence being built one exhibit at a time. It was curiosity finding new questions to chase. It was a group of adolescents realizing their world is bigger than their village and that they belong in it.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 🌍✨🕊️

We often say children are the future but what if we could help them shape a kinderfuture, starting today? That was exactly the spirit behind this workshop. It began with a warm welcome, where children were introduced to the purpose of the session: to understand that kindness and respect aren't just words, but everyday choices that shape who we become.

Through a series of thoughtfully designed activities, the children explored these values in ways that were fun, interactive, and deeply meaningful:

🔸 Kind Word Circle – learning the power of encouraging words
🔸 Kindness Wall– building a visual reminder of small acts that make a big difference
🔸 Respect vs. Disrespect – understanding the fine line between the two through real-life scenarios
🔸 Stop-Think-Choose – developing thoughtful decision-making before reacting
🔸 Role Play– stepping into others' shoes to build empathy
🔸 Class Charter – co-creating shared classroom values
🔸 Kindness Promise– making a personal commitment to be kinder every day

The session culminated in a collective pledge, where every child promised to carry forward the values of kindness and respect not just within the classroom, but in every interaction, every day.

What stood out most was watching these young participants engage with genuine curiosity and openness proof that when we invest in emotional intelligence alongside education, we're truly nurturing well-rounded, compassionate individuals for tomorrow.

As part of the Gram Seva Program with the support of SBI Foundation , BJUP conducted a Trellis Farming Training for the farming community of Denga, Sukhsaina, Palasi (Araria, Bihar) designed to turn small landholdings into sources of steady income and dignity.

During the training session, what strikes us every time is the participation mothers with children in their laps, elders staying back to ask questions, young volunteers taking notes. Development doesn't happen through programs alone; it happens because people show up and stay engaged.

🌾👩‍🌾 𝗕𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼:

🌾 Understand the concept and benefits of trellis farming.
🌾 Select the right crops suited for trellis cultivation.
🌾 Build low-cost structures using local materials bamboo, wire, rope, and netting.
🌾 Space and train plants for healthier yields.
🌾 Manage irrigation, organic manure, and fertilization.
🌾 Identify pests and diseases through integrated pest management.
🌾 Calculate input costs, output, and potential income.
🌾 Draft a simple, practical trellis farming plan for their own fields.

What we witnessed wasn't just a technical session it was quiet confidence being built, one lesson at a time. A farmer who once relied on guesswork now leaves with a plan. A family that once measured income in uncertainty now sees a path to more.

अ से Anganwadi 🏡 👧👦🌸

Sometimes, a mural on a wall is much more than a mural.

It can turn the letter अ into a story a child wants to hear. It can turn "months of the year" into something a five-year-old points at with pride. It can turn a blank corner into a jungle, an ocean, a sky full of possibilities.

This is what we saw at our Anganwadi centre in Bhojpur, renovated with the support of HDFC Bank Parivartan under the Holistic Rural Development Program.
Not just a fresh coat of paint on old walls. But a space that is: Bright. Playful. Full of colour, curiosity, and comfort.

Because for a child, learning doesn't begin with a blackboard. It begins with a place that feels like it was made for them where every wall has something to discover, and every corner invites them to sit down and stay a while.

A place where a puzzle piece fits, a picture book opens, and a corner becomes a whole world. Where a shy child finds a favourite spot by the window, and a curious one traces every animal on the wall with their finger.

That's what this Anganwadi has become not just a room children attend, but a space they look forward to. A space that tells them, quietly but clearly: you belong here, and this is yours.
