Since its inception in 1968, VELEMEGNA’s goal has been to heal those in physical distress, teach the fundamentals of caring for others as we care for ourselves and share the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ. us by VELEMEGNA’s founders, Dr. Christy Salins and his wife, Dr. Sushila Salins. The mission of VELEMEGNA is to demonstrate the Love of Christ through excellence in health care, education, research, and developmental activities. At Velemegna we believe that illness is a part of our common humanity and comes to us all in different forms by “divine permission” from God. We do not ask “why” but rather “how” can we help for it is our duty to help one another. However, it is more than our duty, it is our honor, our privilege and our joy to follow Christ’s example.

S. Salins College of Optometry, Bidar, proudly celebrated World Optometry Day on 23rd March 2026 with great enthusiasm and purpose. The event highlighted the vital role of optometrists in preserving vision and promoting eye health in the community.

Students actively participated in exhibitions, showcasing innovative ideas and spreading awareness about eye care. The celebration also included engaging activities that emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups and preventive care.

This meaningful occasion not only enhanced knowledge but also inspired our future optometrists to serve society with dedication and compassion.

A New Vision for Anitha

Anitha had been suffering from poor vision for the past three years and was forced to stop going to school because she could not see the blackboard clearly. During a free eye camp conducted by Dr. Salins Eye Hospital, doctors examined her and diagnosed a cataract.

Due to financial difficulties, her family could not afford the surgery. Understanding their situation, Dr. Sybil Salins and Mr. Philemon kindly arranged a free cataract surgery for Anitha.

Today, Anitha has regained her vision and hopes to continue her studies. Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the hospital team for bringing light back into her life.
