As a Mental Wellness Counsellor and someone deeply connected with children’s emotional journeys, I feel this needs to be said.
A school counsellor’s role is often misunderstood. They are hired for mental health support—but slowly pulled into discipline, administration, and event management. And somewhere, the core purpose gets diluted.
For years, this role has existed in a grey area in India—valued, yet not fully understood.
But I truly appreciate the recent push by CBSE towards clarity and structure.
The focus is finally shifting towards: ✔ Full-time, trained counsellors
✔ Student socio-emotional well-being
✔ Clear distinction between counselling and career guidance
This is not just a guideline—it is a much-needed change in mindset.
Because mental health is not an “extra duty.”
It is the foundation of education.
Let’s recognise, respect, and strengthen the role of school counsellors—because every child deserves to be heard, understood, and supported.

World Social Work Day is observed every year on the third Tuesday in March. This year it is 17th March.

The day recognizes the hard work and diligence of social workers. On this day, a global organization of social workers advocates for social justice, human rights, and social development while promoting the best practices in social work.

Social workers serve many roles in our communities. They assess their client’s and community’s needs and challenges. Social workers also respond to crises.

The International Federation of Social Workers (I.F.S.W.) promotes World Social Work Day. Since 1983, the Federation, an international, non-governmental organization of social workers, has teamed up with other organizations to assist international cooperation and recognize the accomplishments and contributions of social workers globally.

The National Association of Social Workers (N.A.S.W.) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers globally. The N.A.S.W. platform encourages its members’ professional growth and development to create and maintain professional standards for social workers and advance sound social policies. The I.F.S.W. is the global body for the profession. The federation and its registered members strive for social justice, human rights, and inclusive, sustainable social development through promoting social work. They also promote sustainable practice and engagement in international cooperation.

World Social Work Day enforces the idea that we are all connected, and our future depends on every person’s involvement in building a socially just future. Anyone can come together for World Social Work Day, including social workers, partner organizations, and those who care about the future to change our world for the better.

The theme for 2026 is “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”. Inspired by the African philosophy of Harambee (“pulling together”), this theme highlights social work's role in fostering inclusion, trust, and sustainability in a divided world.

“Let us pledge to stand up for every woman who suffers in silence, to give strength to her voice, courage to her heart, and hope to her journey. When women support women, the world becomes a safer and brighter place.”
“A woman’s strength is not just in her resilience, but in her ability to rise and help others rise with her.”
🌸 On this International Women’s Day, let us promise to fight for dignity, safety, and respect for every woman.
Stay Safe, Stay Blessed, Stay Happy. 🌹🙏🌹

It was a great honour to be invited as the Chief Speaker at the Annual Function of Buxi Jagabandhu Plus Two College.
Sharing the dais with the esteemed Chief Guest, Smt. Niyati Patnaik, Director of Higher Education, Government of Odisha, was truly a moment of pride and gratitude 🌹🙏🌹
Addressing 2,700 young minds and feeling their complete attention, curiosity, and energy as I spoke was deeply moving. When students listen not just with their ears but with their hearts, those moments become priceless and unforgettable.
These experiences remind me why I chose the path of education, mental wellness, and youth empowerment. I am sincerely thankful to all my well-wishers for their constant support and blessings 🙏🌹🙏
A special note of gratitude to my dearest Preesita for always standing by me 🤍
