With rising soil degradation and climate stress, the need for community-led sustainable farming has never been greater. At NYDHEE, farmers are driving change through village resource centres, community seed banks, and agroecological practices—restoring soil health, conserving seeds, and building climate resilience.

This Earth Day, it’s a reminder that real change happens when communities lead and sustainability becomes a way of life.

Reviving Commons, Rebuilding Livelihoods!

Across rural landscapes, village ponds often remain underused despite their huge potential. NYDHEE is working with communities to reclaim these commons—transforming them into sources of fish farming, vegetable cultivation, and integrated livelihoods.

With support from Village Resource Centres, communities are turning neglected resources into productive assets—strengthening income, nutrition, and local ownership.

Food, Feelings & Freedom from Stress:

Under our SoCCs–NOURISH project, supported by Social Capital Initiatives, NYDHEE engaged with women participants in Bangriposi, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, India to build awareness on balanced nutrition in daily life and mental wellbeing for a stress-free life.

Women came together as a community, sitting in a circle and sharing food from their households - creating a space for connection, equality, and shared learning. This collective sharing became a simple yet powerful way to exchange knowledge on nutrition and healthy food practices.

The “Worry Stone” activity reflected a simple truth - stress is like a stone we keep holding in our hand. The longer we hold it, the heavier and more painful it becomes. But we also have the choice to let it go, release it, and feel lighter.
A small step towards healthier minds and stronger communities. 🌸
